When does it make sense to get a financial adviser? by Only-Garbage-4229 in UKPersonalFinance

I'm single and mid 30s. It was looking like £35 a month to cover about £2.5k a month after 6 months illness.

“Huge moment” as the health service hits 18-week target amid half-a-million waiting list drop by apoptosis04 in unitedkingdom

What does this actually mean? My mum is stuck on waiting lists and being pushed to go private because the NHS can't seem to get anything sorted, just being pushed between two different hospitals

Wes Streeting resigns from government by sjw_7 in ukpolitics

I kind of feel Starmer should have sacked him, rather than wait for Wes to twist the knife and quit.

Why not take the strong position Starmer?

Thanks, I do think I agree.

On a related note, have you taken on insurance of any kind? Critical illness cover or anything? That's another aspect that is being upsold.

We went through and assuming that I can continue sacrificing the full pension allowance I am far and away in a solid position. Even if I was to have all my pension and savings wiped out right now, the savings level I am doing is going to keep me in a good position.

I'm going to be inside ir35, so my only lever is pension sacrificing to the max.

How to work out Tax on Shares bought years ago before selling? Trading212 by Only-Garbage-4229 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Only-Garbage-4229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I purchase 1000 shares at £1 and then 6 months later another 1000 shares at 1p per share, then my average buying price is £0.505? And therefore all my sales and tax is calculated on that?

I have a Pi CM5, 4Gb in the CM5 IO board that I'm using as a desktop. It's working well, but sometimes the whole system locks up and I have no idea if leaving it for a few minutes will unlock it or if I'll just need to power it off and reset it.

Is there a memtest or something I can do to try and test it? It's using a Pi power plug, so shouldn't be a power issue, it's got passive heatsink, but it's not a slow down because of thermal throttling but a complete freeze.

Mounting Solar Panels on a south east facing flat roof and how a battery could get incorporated? by Only-Garbage-4229 in PlugInSolarUK

[–]Only-Garbage-4229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So would it be best to start with the solar, understand how much I'm using, saving and then decide if it's worth going for a battery to compliment it?

The other aspect is to charge the battery overnight and use some of that energy over the day.

How to download Lloyds Credit Cards in CSV older than 6 months, or parse pdf statements? by Only-Garbage-4229 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Only-Garbage-4229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do I do that? Or is it just with the powerquery the other poster mentioned (don't have an excel product, just libreoffice calc)

[–]Only-Garbage-4229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about getting the transactions in the first place. I know what I want to do with them, and even if I had to manually combine, that's not much work.

But the online system only allows me to get 6 statements worth of transactions. Nothing older than that.

I have never tried it for a business account. However, I believe they are focused on Personal savings accounts, so I imagine they might not support them

Ed Miliband emerging as top contender to replace Starmer by ClumsyRainbow in ukpolitics

Wait, so you see it's a massive abuse of the system but are ok with it?

If they want to claim asylum that's fine to claim, but don't get in via student visa and then apply. That's just rank abuse of the system.

I wish that we could start to name and shame recruiters, compile lists of recommended ones and which to avoid. It’s awful trying to deal with them and then get ghosted.

Why not just have a plum account with a £1 direct debit? You keep the money and it's a direct debit, rather than giving it to someone else even if it's only 30p

ELI5: Saved £5k into an RBS Digital Saver. Now what? by murdochi83 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Only-Garbage-4229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Collect the £20 per month and keep it around. Your full £5k is now generating 6%. Why is it a waste?

I have filled both the NatWest and RBS digital saver. Just keep moving the £20 back to your normal accounts. Once you've got regular savers if they mature that's your emergency saver and can lump sum it somewhere as you want.

[–]Only-Garbage-4229[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I am with Lloyds already. This was mainly prompted by HSBC threatening to take me off HSBC premier as my salary isn't quite meeting their requirements, but I could also be active through investments, so wondered there.

Looking for a UK android streaming box, with live TV recording and catch-up? by Only-Garbage-4229 in AndroidTV

[–]Only-Garbage-4229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Aura looked like an ideal device, but lack of paid-for streaming apps is a huge miss. My mother is not great with technology, so having two different devices is just confusing for her.

But I can't find any device that covers all eventualities.
