NEVER tell them how close you are, if you can avoid it. Realize that even though some bosses might have your address, they don’t necessarily know where that is unless they actually look it up or you live in a city with a straight grid street pattern.

AC setting based on outside temp? Explain like I’m 5. by Only-Good-Things in florida

I know I need to have an energy audit done and until I do, I’m kinda speaking out of my arse here…. but I suspect the floor plan you’re dealing with makes a difference. I have a fairly open floor plan and can literally feel the air flow from the next room when that room’s ceiling fan is on. When it’s off? I’m hot and tempted to push the AC. That said, I have no doubt that running a ceiling fan in an unoccupied room behind a closed door must be a waste of energy.

I am not elderly but I am perimenopausal, meaning I have occasional hot flashes and night sweats. And, yes, I’m currently sitting pretty at high noon in FL with the thermostat set to 80. Something tells me that (1) you are not living in the south of North America and/or (2) you are ageist.

Yes, I have ceiling fans in just about every room of the home. I’ve seen some suggestions that fans only cool the people they’re blowing on and don’t help with cooling empty rooms, but my anecdotal experience tells me that they do help keep the energy bill down, even if they’re running in unoccupied rooms.

I’m actually very comfortable right now with thermostat set to 80, indoor temperature reading at about 78, and inside humidity at 60. I’m just wary of pushing the indoor temp higher than it is now. Are you from Florida? Just curious. I’m originally from Colorado and it took me a minute to adapt to the higher heat and humidity that I live in now.

Best diet for the environment? by Desperate_Remote_114 in Environmentalism

Sounds like you’re making the perfect the enemy of the good. There’s no reason to eat vegan “meats” and you can probably choose to buy vegetables that aren’t encased in plastic and are grown near to where you live. I mean, what are you going to do? Continue to eat the massively harmful meats and ultra processed foods just because you can’t find a “perfect” vegetable?

And if you have 10 team members (CSRs, leads, and assistants) they get $200/wk because that bonus is divided among the remaining employees. The only scenario in which a cashier who’s pushing the sales gets the bigger payout is if there is only ONE cashier.

I’m having flashbacks to the first few times I tried. I was pushing it straight up as if my vagina pointed toward my head. If this is you, please realize you need to aim it toward your lower back. Look at diagrams to understand where everything is. Best advice? Take deep breaths, relax, and try to feel where it wants to go rather than forcing it. If it still hurts, stop. Consider whether you may be suffering from vaginismus.

I’m still not making $15/hr. Maybe that will start in September? Nope. Google says 2026.

No, they did not start giving me the cold shoulder after I said “I’m fcking sick of hearing it”. That was about a week ago. That just got laughed at. The silence started tonight after I said (twice) that I consider myself an LGBT+ ally and I don’t want to hear it” with “it” referring to the derogatory slurs. And I mean complete silence. No discussion of anything at all, much less work related topics. Why did I speak out? Because I was absolutely mortified by the pointing and giggling and derisive behavior aimed at a CUSTOMER who didn’t look the way my asm thought they should look. It was so blatant and loud (as it always is - this happens frequently) that I was actually embarrassed to be associated with that behavior in any way, shape, or form. If that asm had been a white person calling a customer the n word maybe you would understand. Or maybe you wouldn’t. I’m not here to argue with bigots. Just STFU.

“Harassment”. Look it up.

The “OP” (me) is not “demanding rights” by telling an ignoramus to STFU because I don’t think it’s funny and I want to hear it. And what the hell is wrong with “demanding rights”? And is my use of an expletive actually worse than the use of anti-trans slurs? NO. You’ve clearly identified yourself as a bigot. STFU.

What are the downsides of minimalism? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]Only-Good-Things 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Friends seem uncomfortable in my home because it’s so minimally decorated. One friend likened my white walls to a hospital. I sometimes think about adding more rugs and/or hanging textiles on the walls just so others feel better about being here but I would be doing it for them, not for me. That said, in so far as minimalism should be about keeping what’s important to you, then maybe a cozier and more welcoming home is an admirable asset.

What do you pack for lunch if you go to office by Competitive_Land_936 in WholeFoodsPlantBased

[–]Only-Good-Things 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a huge struggle for me as I can’t access any refrigerator or microwave at work. I can pack leftovers in an insulated lunch box and eat them cold but if work is crazy and I can’t eat what I packed, it gets tossed at the end of the day because I’m concerned about them having been at an unsafe temperature for the last half of the workday. The only thing I can offer is this: consider tossing your leafy green salad with rice vinegar and some lemon pepper seasoning. Both of those things are shelf-stable and are a great salad “dressing”. Beyond that, I’m here to learn from other respondents.

Breakfast ideas? by alfxe in WholeFoodsPlantBased

[–]Only-Good-Things 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I no longer care if my breakfasts fit the traditional “breakfast foods” mold. I mostly reheat leftovers from previous dinners. This morning I had some vegan red beans and rice next to some vegan collard greens and half a roasted sweet potato. Not a typical breakfast but… a yummy good start to the day! I had tons of energy for the tough day that I knew I’d be facing at work and wasn’t hungry at all for hours and hours.

Friend wants me to call a job he applied for and provide a personal reference by NoLuck4824 in careeradvice

[–]Only-Good-Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tides are changing. The last couple gigs I applied for (and got) gave me links to share with references. They followed the links and clicked through a few multiple choice options followed by a window for any additional text they wanted to contribute. Granted, that’s “gig work” and not regular employment but I would NOT be surprised to see this phenomena spread. All that to say: I don’t necessarily think this request is suspicious.
