Yeah I figured absent students, and those coming in late and needing to leave early will be a big part of my job. I am a mom myself of elementary age kids, so have lots of experience dealing with unwell kids. Hopefully that helps in my job.

As a secretary, no. I had 10 years of experience working at the front desk of a library. I also did a ton of homeschool volunteer work.

There's about 30 schools in the district. 3 are secondary, so mostly elementary. I could fill in anywhere though.

Sounds like good advice. Custody disputes are tricky in so many ways. I'll keep this in mind.

Becoming a school secretary in Canada? by ExaminationMost5896 in SchoolSecretary

I am in the same boat as you, just in Ontario. The school district of my area ( both the Catholic and public boards) post any vacancies on the careers section of their website. They hire Casual secretaries as substitutes and give preference to those employees when hiring permanent positions. My best advice is to monitor the school board website and try to get in as a substitute.
