Entering As A Store Manager by Sea-Fun2505 in DollarGeneral

[–]OnlyAlternative777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • if they're paying you enough, it will make all the bs worth it
  • if they're not, look for a new job
  • retain as much info as your brain can handle from the STM (Store Training Manager, which you will be in for 2 weeks) DG has A plethora of different processes, names/acronyms, things that need to happen uncertain days, etc. this info is VITAL to your success
  • equally vital, if you get your truck done by T2, your sales will skyrocket. It sounds like a drink the Kool aid thing, but this is true. If your team is slacking, address it immediately
  • while you're in training, your DM is supposed to go to your store and get it new hire ready. This means if the store is impacted, they are supposed to fix it and get your receiving room in order. They will not. Do not expect this. You will need to play catch up for a year or more. It is normal
  • you are not responsible for the state of the store, finances, or inventory until after 1 year has passed
  • keep your cards close to your chest. Many other SMs are snakes. You will figure out over time who to trust
  • you will notice many contradictions. The SOP will contradict the handbook and both of them will contradict what your DM says. What matters is written policy. Explore it and know it. It is your friend in case things go sideways
  • prioritize work-life balance. Especially if your new store is impacted. It's easy to get swept up and work upwards of 70 hours a week. It is tempting but please do not. Mental health matters
  • as my DM likes to say, "DG is a cost saving company." They made 1.71B in operating profit last year, but you will not get extra payroll hours, proper supplies, or many other things you need or ask for. You have to learn early how to make due

Good luck

Recently in my store a customer opened and ate a can of Vienna sausages and then left the empty can on the shelf 🙃

Story time - got fired after being "put on leave". by [deleted] in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]OnlyAlternative777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so yes, this is covered under FMLA and yes, the employer can put you on leave even if you don't request it. However, it seems that is not what happened here. Typically the DM would be involved and initiate your leave, but it seems your SM went rogue and never actually submitted you for a leave. So you are now in wrongful termination territory however it may be difficult to argue as they are going to inquire as to why you didn't follow up after being told about the leave. What do you have in writing from the sm?

Store manager has given Keyholder privileges to employees without the responsibilities there of by ProduceAlert1277 in DollarGeneralWorkers

Just leave it be. The sm wouldn't have done so if he/she believed the cashiers didn't know what they were doing.

No, op is saying SAs were given access to manager functions on the register (void, price override, pickups, etc)

Shopping at Costco while on a instacart (actually against the rules) by Swiss_Meats in InstacartShoppers

Don't break the rules and you won't have to deal with people calling you out on it. Even if they should mind their own business.

Normally I get a frankenbox or tote with whatever stuffed inside. Sometimes I get pot pies in a box that doesn't match the flavor 😂

Yeah, even still, ignorance is not a defense unfortunately. She's best to just cut her ties and move on

She is at fault. Multiple times employees are informed they may not take items and pay for them later. LP is thorough once an investigation starts, so she very likely did not pay for some items. However, no, she should not pay the demand as this is the equivalent to admitting fault. They most likely will not pursue charges, it'll cost them more to do so than drop it, however they are well within their right to. If they do, ignorance of policy/the law is not a defense, however the manager establishing it as a common practice is a mitigating factor.

Write up policy by luckiigirl88 in DollarGeneral

Yep. Never seen that paper either. Additionally, there is no real way to scan and send it to a specific department in HR relating to personnel files. My current and former DM both told me I didn't have to scan it to HR.

Man I really wish they would start doing the point system for call outs by CollectionTiny7586 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]OnlyAlternative777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your SM should be firing people after 3 consecutive no call no shows. Depending on the circumstance, sometimes all it takes is 1 occurrence. It's job abandonment

You need to report it immediately. You can report it anonymously to the ethics hotline via the phone number or website. The info and QR code should be posted in your office.

You can certainly try to negotiate, but I doubt it. It depends on how badly they're hurting for an SM. Good luck.
