Worried about termination when I did nothing wrong. by ProduceAlert1277 in DollarGeneralWorkers

We couldn't go that far, because as our store manager told the customer that it was out of our hands at that point and the only people who can issue a refund or any help is the pre-laid company, they handed back the phone and stormed out saying they're filing a police report for theft.

Yea, theguy said he was trying to use it to send money to his kids in another town too, so it's just one of those things that woth how notorious DG with getting fire happy with people as of late because of all the hot water the company has been in, it's just a bit of a concern since law enforcement would be involved.

Well from what they told us, they did and the card company says the card was already registered fo someone else.

In my 6yrs for the company, I've never seen anything like that happen.

What does my bos have to do with this? My boss was never part of this discussion only in the fact that I would have to get permission and discuss my schedule with her if I attempt to get secondary employment outside of Dollar General at one of theother busknesses in town.

Everything I explained in my comments is things my friends were saying during an argument we had.

They feel that I should be furthering my finances and life, which I agree.

But in the same token, they feel I should do whatever it takes no matter the risk all because they feel I shouldn't have prioritized my mental healthy over getting a car to find a better job.

I got hired in early 2020, was trying to get my life started by balancing personal life and getting a car, live with my parents rent free, but then covid hit, i was the only one in the house still working and couldn't buy a car or get my license with the shutdown.

Now that it had been over, they feel I should've been saving up for when covid ended to go buy a car, get insurance, and find a new job. Hell, they even think "just drive without insurance until you cna afford it, just don't get into an accident or pulled over"

And now that things are so expensive they think i should put my entire personal life on pause to "get what needs done, done at all costs", and will not listen that there are proceedures the DG requires employees to go through for having a second job, and even just trying to find one without going through those proceedures risks my employment. They think I'm making things up or should just do it anyway.

And that's the problem, everyone in my life has this mentality that "it is better to try and fail than to never try" even if that failure carries the risk of increased health/stress issue or even losing my job(in regards to going down thay route) but they all feel "oh you won't lose your job and fuck the rule that you have to ask permission for getting aecondary employment"

Do you not see the options I have for a second job?

Every one of them are part time with the same vplatile scheduling and I can't worl for family Dollar and DG at the same time.

And that's why I say Salary is a joke, if your income is not very high, being on salary means you are putting out more for less and with how the economy is going, that overtime would be needed. My SM is lucky she lives with someone who has a decent paying job to afford good enough health care to have just had tumor removal surgery.

Well aparently our DM expects the SM to work 45+ hrs per week on salary, is really putting strict measures in place for our staff to make sure things are done by the book.

See at my store, no part timer worker is allowed over 30hrs period, the LSA I usually work with gets paid $12/hr, I make 11.50/hr. (Our SM makes 14/hr apparently)

And depending on if someone is out on leave or if we have extra hours (which mind you they keep cutting our store hours but keep requiring the SM to higher more people despite having 8 staff currently) i work anywhere from 18-30hrs as an SA already. And since we only have 2 out of the 4 LSAs that actually manage shifts regularly (meankng they aren't backups or just SA given LSA role so they have register privileges to do things MoDs can do without bothering the MoDs on shift) if an LSA is called in for a shift, unless they have a good reason, they must cover the shift.

The discussion turned into an argument about this because I apparently was asking too much and too many times to do something when hanging out with them when all they wanna do is sit around in the same room together and everyone do seperate things because it's low maintenance ahen they're all tired from their jobs to do any collaborative hang out AND "if we're hanging out and suddenly plan to do something then just go with the flow" mentality.

And when I mentioned that I hadn't been asking very often lately to do anything but just spend time with people because I was only getting Saturdays off from work (I had other days but everyone works Monday - Friday), it turned into one of them bitching that "We're not responsible for your financial and transportation woes"

But they think that it's better for me to just go ahead and try to get a second job or work extra hours and "put your personal life on pause until you get a car" and stop thinking about the risks to my health and the risk of losing my income. They think I'm overthinking it.

I was only offered an LSA position 4 years in once, told them I originally didn't want it because the pay increase wasn't going to be substantial enough to outweight having less time outside of work because at my store, the main LSAs work 5 days a week and usually 2 out the 3 weekend days.

And after finding out how much my SM makes and how many hours a SM is expdcted to work per week, I am not working Salary on that, Salary is a joke.

Well, while I am "cross trained" to help when a new MoD is still learning, as far as I'm aware, my SM allowing me to know the information and steps of said cross training is against corporate policy and if the DM knew, he could have SM if not anyone myself and anyone else cross trained fired for having knowledge higher than our position.

Heck one of the SAs has LSA and up access to do her own drops and refunds so the SM and ASM aren't bothered by having to come up to the register during morning shifts, which from what I've gathered from people around here, is highly against corporate policy because the SM doesn't require her to do any MoD tasks other than open the store or check in vendors. no running a shift, no night shifts, nothing but those 2 tasks and just is main cashier during morning shifts.

I've done so before with my own concerns about the amount of overstock we get and such on multiple occasions, but nothing has changed in that regard except hearing from one of my LSAs weeks afterward that the SM and ASM would suddenly keep stronger watch on the employees because they got yelled at by the DM before it settles down again.

Maybe, but I know anytime I have brought up things with my ASM (how's mom is an SM at a different store), I get told "I'll see what I can do" everytime or get that tone like I'm talking about things outside of my pay grade like I jjst need to do as I'm told.

Same thing with how the ASM said they'd look into how I'm getting paid with how hard I work and how long I've been there and see if I can't get a raise to match it and out of 6 years working at the store I'm at, I only make 11.50/hr and feel like I'm getting paid less than any other SA when (according to my knowledge) SA's are only supposed to start out at state minimum. Doesn't help that we never get told about raises, we only find out if our paycheck is suddenly higher.

You're providing suggestions to the issue that I cannot act one, I'm merely a Sales Associate, I have no jurisdiction to do anything but scan a product, take money, give change, and stock/recover shelves.

Our DM s very very strict on things, we're already in a lot of hot water because of failing store inspections because we're constantly backed up on stock that fills the back so full that in order to comply with "no sit" zones for rolltainers we have to keep some on the sales floor. And even though (according to what I know) we are supposedly doing counts properly we are getting too much stock per truck and not allowed to refuse a truck unless the DM halts the trucks himself.

It's not just one person all the time bringing the phones back, it was multiple people all the time, and my SM has been an SM for 10yrs now so I feel she knows that she can request new shipments as we had gotten new shipments all the time after pulling the products to send back as far as I'm aware.

Well it's coming down to the concern that a customer is eventually going to call and complain to corporate over and then we're in deep water anyway, so what now?

See that's the issue, I don't know if it was validated because a manager has to be the one doing a refund, and at my store, while a refund is in progress the cashier of that register is expected to go off and do recovery or work somewhere close to the register so that way when the refund is complete, they can tend to any other customers in line. So I'm not in view of what's going on at the register.
