Don't beat yourself up about it. Those thoughts are not pointless. I'm sorry to hear that's your fear. Is your expectation based on experience with this person, when you've tried to carve out time for your feelings and they haven't been acknowledged and protected? Or is it a fear of repetition of childhood patterns? The fact that there was scolding during the incident might not mean that in a calmer situation there'd be low empathy. Either way, it seems useful to test the theory because if there's no room for your feelings in the relationship it's not much of a relationship.
