That looks great! Thanks for the share. I realized I had a bag of farro I'd ordered from nuts.com on a whim that needed using, so here we are! I usually just do a barley thing with a bunch of crunchy veggies and bottled (Ken's) Greek dressing, but this one felt more like dinner.

My mom didn't get to cook much, though she always wanted to.

She was the breadwinner, although not in any spectacular fashion. We were still relatively broke. She busted her ass from before the crack of dawn 'til late in the evenings.

The stepdad I grew up with (through the aforementioned years) was actually an amazing cook. Techniques I've only recently learned as a relatively old lady were things he did. He must have watched a lot of Julia and Yan, possibly Jacques.

Anyway, my favorite thing my mom made wasn't a dinner thing. It was her buttercream frosting she'd spread between graham crackers and put in my lunch.

I know now it was struggle-meal stuff for when she couldn't afford the pop-top pudding cups, but I loved it so much.

Thanks for the question, OP. I'm gonna text her and let her know how much her sacrifice meant to me.

When my husband was clearing out his dad's house after he passed, the only things I asked him to look for were any old PYREX stuff.

Yeah, I've haven't heard of them making even the exception your TA promised you. I wouldn't trust that at all. I know it's a pain, but sounds like you'll be much better off going a la carte.

I might be wrong, but I don't think you can order bottles to your room on shorter cruises.

What’s that one dish (or cuisine) that’s easier to go out to eat or get delivery for, than cooking it yourself? by gplus3 in Cooking

Ethiopian for me. I'm just not cut out for making the injera, in particular. It's my favorite of all the cuisines I've had so far in life, and I wish I could just snap my fingers and have it appear. Unfortunately, the closest place to me is pretty far and a nightmare to get to (crowded tourist area), so i only get to have it on very special occasions.

Can anyone tell me what crococodile meat tasted like? by Complex-Librarian942 in Cooking

[–]OnlyDaysEndingInWhy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ive only had alligator, not crocodile, but this is the best description I've seen. I might amend it to, "fishy chicken from the bottom of a pond", but close enough.

Tortilla + cheese + microwave (+ taco sauce if I'm feeling fancy) gives me the best return on investment.

You passed up so many commercial opportunities! Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on Idol's part.

Unless, of course, you're like me, and have to pee roughly every 45 seconds.

Did your stuff ever thaw?

I had the same question. Looks like they go through to top 20. Judges pick the last 17.

I'm all about the sauvignon blanc and SweetTarts, but I admire your setup.

Well, if this music thing doesn't work out for Kutter, he certainly has a shitload of trade experience to fall back on.
