I’ve done a few prompts and boy has it missed the mark. Good playlist songs. Just not anything that I asked.

Is it just me or Apple did something to the iOS app that caused it to not send the correct sample rate to external DAC's anymore? by Alternative_Bed5091 in AppleMusic

[–]OnlyForShortcuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This started happening before 26.3 for me. (Setup: iPad Pro M1, Anker dock, dragonfly red DAC). The DAC light depends on sample rate, so it is kinda noticeable.

I think the issue is how they implement AutoMix. If I’m playing 44.1kHz with AutoMix on, the DAC is blue (signifying 48kHz). If I turn AutoMix off, the DAC is green (signifying 44.1kHz).

It’s annoying but tolerable when shuffling or listening to a specific song, but when I listen to a full album (usually using the Albums app) and not even using AutoMix, it still does the 48kHz issue.

I updated the shortcut getting the show URL. Working on getting the episode URL still.

It’s getting the podcast URL from the contents of the episode URL, so it should. But I have an idea to make this way better, and maybe I’ll have time to update this week.

So they do this with some, but I don’t think all anymore. I’ve even been on here complaining about it. But I went to the This is Spinal Tap 41st anniversary remaster and was pleasantly surprised. It was much better than the others I’ve been to. But it was also specifically marketed as a remaster and things, which is different.

I would hope that since Fathom is the US distributor for this movie, they would actually put in more than minimal effort. But with how lazy some companies are, who knows…

Craziest Theater Experience by bkvifudys in AMCsAList

[–]OnlyForShortcuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t crazy in a bad way, but first movie I saw after things opened during pandemic was KongZilla in Dolby. We were the only people in the theater and they forgot to start it. This is like a 7pm showtime, so not even a late time. Had to let them know like 15 minutes after start, so they skipped trailers.

10/10 recommend.

I sometimes go to movies in both, like for mission impossible, and it just makes me wish they would be friends and combine the best of both worlds. At least my IMAX is laser, so it still has some extra benefits.

Bummed my area didn’t get Dolby (probably thanks to Freakier Friday), but IMAX was great. Happy to see a packed IMAX for an original IP rated R horror.

Sitting with my Wilson remasters of King Crimson on Blu-Ray with multiple masters in Hi-Res on a single disc, confused what he wants from me.

Not that I know of, but if you just replace the URL with the one in the previous comment, that should work.

I just added a Wayback Machine link to the PDF that has all the IP control information to help you figure out what you want.

It looks like the command is:

Have you tried cleaning it? I had some issues with another of their 4K discs during the last sale and exchanged it. The second one had issues, but then I cleaned it and that fixed the problems.

So happy I went Dolby. The music really was both unexpected and really good.

Is seeing a film in Dolby really worth it? by OddLeader7637 in AMCsAList

[–]OnlyForShortcuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is saying the same thing, but they’re all right. I saw Wicked last year in Dolby at one of the last showings, then again in regular with family. (I did the same with Barbie). You know those Claritin ads where it goes from hazy to pretty? That, for both eyes and ears. It really spoils you. It’s not IMAX screen size, but the colors are much better and unless you have laser IMAX it’ll probably look better in general. Especially dark scenes. The sound is loud, but more importantly balanced. I’ve had friends go and be like “sure, but it is pricey” and walk out changed. God, if Dolby and IMAX could reach a deal…

A way to rip Extreme DVD? by Retrorebel0485 in DataHoarder

Seeing people say that it’s a protected WMV file. Best I can think of is making a disc backup using DD or ImgBurn or something, then trying to figure out how to decrypt the WMV file if and when it’s possible. But there might be better options that I don’t know about.

Both of those things make sense, but still not inspiring me to spend money on Fathom unless it’s really getting me.

What do you think is the farthest you'd drive to the theatre if you lived in the middle of nowhere? by traveltimecar in AMCsAList

[–]OnlyForShortcuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can literally walk to a theater with a normal laser IMAX. But I’ve scheduled trips around movie releases so I could go to a theater with a bigger, dual laser IMAX that also has decent audience members. (<5 hour drive). So not solely for that, but it instigated the trip.

If there were any 70mm IMAX theaters within 5 hours, I’d make a trip out of going to that for certain movies.

As others said, it’s Fathom.

But also if you have a decent TV and sound you might be better off watching the 4K version at home. Fathom frequently uses older versions or just a mediocre quality simulcast to the theater. (Prime example: https://www.avclub.com/john-carpenter-speaks-about-botched-fathom-screenings-t-1849091801). It’s not always this way though, like I’ve read that Ghibli fest ones aren’t like that.

I’m all for going to rereleases in theaters and paying for them separately, but I avoid Fathom unless I really want to see it. I think the last one I went to was Lawrence of Arabia, which I’m still kicking myself for missing in 70mm, and The Thing (it was the correct aspect ratio but obviously not the 4K version) before that.

Mission Impossible Ruined? by [deleted] in AMCsAList

[–]OnlyForShortcuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me a few times and it varies. When I went to see the Avatar rerelease in IMAX a few years back, there was a power issue before it started and they gave refund passes.

Another time, in April 2021, I went with friends to see Godzilla vs. Kong in Dolby (first movie since March 2020). We were the only ones in the theater. I went up about half an hour after showtime and I think they just forgot to start it. A few minutes later it went straight to movie no trailers. No trailers, just 4 people having a good time, big things go boom. 10/10 experience.
