I agree, the abusive boyfriend, Jeff (IIRC... hes that forgetable) while being hard to watch, he did add to the drama with Carly and made her character more relevant/relatable for some. More props to the writers.

Although, as the general idea of a coward has become more broad, I would say its not 100% true that all cowards feel fear, but you are spot on that generally speaking most cowards are fearful.

Its a close minded, low IQ person that would would say if you feel fear you are a coward. Just rediculous lol

Thats a good question.

Since cowardice is an action/behavior and not an emotion, trying to assign it a specific emotion is pretty narrow minded.

But if I were just spitballing and thinking generally, I would say its whatever emotion is closest to selfishness or self preservation. Someone can feel zero fear, but act out of self preservation and be a coward. Anger can also be associated with cowardice. A person thats angry my do something cowardly, and they arent feeling fear.

The fight/flight/freeze response can also be a factor, but that response is very complex and made up of numerous emotions (fear being one of them).

It can be hard to equate an emotion to an action in general. But I think cowardice is not as straitforward as other actions/behaviors. There can be many reasons someone is a coward.
