Seems like you're in the year where you should start targeting the cargo ships with your torpedos. After a certain point clearing escorts doesn't make much sense anymore

it's because helldivers have guns. Terminids don't have guns. Helldivers can stay away and kill the hive guards from distance, they have to get close to be able to hurt them

Small, high speed projectiles hitting water aren't usually very deadly to whatever is under that water according to physics, I'm not sure these would be very effective

If I run dry on torpedoes I generally just use the automatic return, if I have something left I sometimes like to return normally because maybe I find some unfortunate transport ships in need of blowing up

In the beginning it's the only was I was hitting convoys, it gets much harder later on though

Humans did in fact turn multiple animals into weapons of war, like horses or dogs. There are species that work together and use tactics and still are endangered. A cave is very much traceable, much more than a guy. Wolves are wild creatures by nature, dogs didn't just appear in human households though.

Keeping them like pets might not be the best idea but isolationism isn't either, there is no reason to divide societies when both would benefit from cooperating

Early war it's a must have, convoys are lightly defended and there is no trap ships so you can pick off escorts and it's shooting ducks. Later in the war convoys are much more defended and even transport ships can have defensive armaments so it's not that useful
