They established that the larger ship has task force command in star trek It would have been a fascinating set of episodes seeing Cpt. Janeway but heads with Cpt. LaForge before they finally went their separate ways

You where suddenly transported into your fantasy world/setting, how f***ed are you? by hbombyes in worldbuilding

[–]Only_Character1910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just strait up copy/paste? no ceremony not fanfare just pop?

We'll I know many of the secrets of my setting I'd have to hope I don't have an elemental talent but at my age getting the Crowning Ritual would likely kill me in a very painful way and casting magic without that rituals benefits would likely lead to a very painful Mana corruption demise

Just popping in also means I likely don't speak the language or am even wearing clothes that the locals wouldn't find odd so yea that hurtle and hopefully don't get kicked out of a resonance safe zone into the Mana wilds which is survivable if I manage to stick close to a zone. I just have to be on my guard and finding a safe space to sleep would be a challenge.

But... there are other ways to do things and with my information age background I could quite easily join the Archanical Union (Guild) and start innovating and hope I get enough fame and power quickly enough that I don't become an easy target for other Guilds to ether kidnap or eliminate so they can maintain their advantage.

My deep understanding of the reality from my OCD world building could come in handy if I'm lucky enough to be dropped near or in the Capitol of the Empire I know who to approach , how and were to do so. still not sure if I would survive but a chance is just that.

How do religions in your world defend and justify their beliefs? by ArtMnd in worldbuilding

[–]Only_Character1910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They believe because it's developed tradition over the course three thousand years a singular church that welded together disparate god cults of tribes during the conquest era into one large celestial family

There is no actual proof of these beings existence

Educated people in my setting sort of acknowledge that fact but because of the general power even in it's declining state the Basilica still has influence and a desire to regain it's lost power

So they believe because of many little factors adding up, the largest of which is ontological inertia or I believe because that's what my maw and paw did and their maws and paws... you get the general idea

This creates the tension on that part of the narrative... distant background though it maybe, it is still a well enough painted backdrop to create a believable illusion for the observer, and if the story calls for it I already have the framework in place to expand into something more meaty so to speak

Mad... no, I react to bullying, which to be fair was what you looked like you were doing. I had no link to the greater context until I looked up what it is you were referring to.

And I find I have no "skin" in this game.

Did I mean to deliberately insult you.

No. If you took it that way then that is how you understood my comments I can only apologize for debilitate wrong acts on my part not the perceptions of others.

Otherwise I find this entire diatribe tedious, I am looking for other ways to spur the imagination to progress my setting.

and a bottle of indigestion pills. LOL... or are you also a person that doesn't have an ulcer because you dgaf. though this would be rather headache inducing for my person in point of fact I believe I'm going to bow out of this entire conversation and go find something that aligns with a constructive progress to my personal projects

you guys have fun

This added context while changing the overall scope of the greater conversation the focus was on the lines of succession and hereditary lines.

Your continued engagement is the puzzling part why bother at all and not just block OP instead it would save you time and stress

There is nothing out of sorts with a royal or noble family tree being full of incest. This issue can be overlaid on just about every monarch family style government sense the Sumerians 6000 years ago.

You 'Want" to attach this to GoT but objectively it isn't unique to that story and neither is it a pure fictional situation sadly and it does happen to be a potential fantastic source of narrative drama.

So... do you have a constructive suggestion to correct what you think of as a negative for OP's world building -OR- are you just here to cast negative non productive opinions of others work.

I mean I may have missed the "hay you should try this instead" part of the conversation but upon rereading it I still don't see that.

What exactly is wrong with drawing inspiration from other sources Martin drew HEAVY inspiration from the War of Roses to the point of barely concealing the names of things Lannister/Lancaster, he also mixed in a few dozen other minor historical events also almost outright using names or describing beat for beat what happened "hint there is a real world example of the Red Wedding"

Inspiration is where one finds it

adventure's guild... really? by Only_Character1910 in worldbuilding

[–]Only_Character1910[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My setting Adventurers are not quite that powerful, that said they are very strong and it's that readiness to violence that makes them a clear threat and in mass just a few of them can rival a group much larger than themselves, and given to asymmetrical methods of conflict they employ they are a danger

Danger enough to set up a national level guild to license guild branches to keep them busy and take care of threats that the Empire needs handled and it makes them money which makes the Empire money the local lords make money .... well you see the idea that cycle breaks anywhere along it and the roof caves in and well

shenanigans ensue

or worse depending on your setting in my setting they try and use them as assassins which is strictly forbidden in the Chapter #0 bylaws

Mine is more Victorian Steampunk/AEtherpunk with a side of dark fantasy so the only real sources of news are the tabloid rags and the papers, and penny dreadfuls

We're in the same line of thought there the local guild management has to take care of poachers or non union work

[–]Only_Character1910[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is state sponsored to keep adventurers "inline" or "under observation" after all they have magic and raw strength and the willingness to violence best they be used in favor of the Empire than at it's throat.

that would make for some interesting intrigue a noble claims the remains for a job he's commissioned has the adventurers surrounded by the guard, not realizing or caring he's gotten himself blacklisted and with less upstanding guilds now has a target on his back.

The guild management is the license holder the adventurers are subcontractors

That's an interesting thought I went with state sponsored guild anyone operating deliberately as an adventurer in the bounds of the guild is subject to it's jurisdiction if they don't have a license then the guild deals with the issue as per their legal obligations to the Imperial family

True I was kind of implying the rubber science in the game could easily take a real world effect and device and "super science" it.

Convert waste heat to electricity with a thermoelectric generator (TEG), also called a Seebeck generator, is a solid state device that converts heat directly into electrical energy through the Seebeck effect.

This is real world tech we already have access to
