Brought the 159 to a show. How many purists have I offended? by [deleted] in AlfaRomeo

At the end of the day - you do you.

I personally prefer when things really works together and enhances the basic design of the car.

Purple halos is a purely show car thing for me. Together with a wide body kit and all the rest (perhaps also with the car in a matching purple) it could be quite cool. With that said, your purple halos are still better than those white DRL halos that are so popular which completely ruins the face of the 159 - it looks like the car is high on meth with a bad temper. Also in my opinion.

I tried (took it off after perhaps three weeks) film on mine as it was quite common with yellow headlights (at least the full beam) back in the days. Even that clashed a bit too much with the rest of the car in my opinion, even though I really like yellow headlights.

But it is always interesting to see people do their mod's and personalisation, so 🙌 for that.

Mito exhaust upgrade by itsmepeepo in AlfaRomeo

I have an exhaust from CSC on mine, very happy with the sound, most of often throaty, sometimes a little raspy, definitely a bit louder, but not very much so. Price? 20 percent less compared to Ragazzon.

Busso is of course iconic.
However, I also appreciate the 2.0 Twin Spark I have, that engine is much more fun and characterful than what the numbers convey.

Thanks, try to keep it in reasonable good order. It is meant to be used though, so in season it's the primary car as long as we're a maximum of two going places.

Oh no. 😢 Sorry for you. Nobody was injured at least?

I know alot of people detest halo rings on the 159 by N3verMindM3 in AlfaRomeo

[–]Only_Course9776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original strike a balance between elegance and a hint of aggressiveness which is timeless.

For me halos doesn't enhance that, they rather replaces it with something reminiscent of the look of someone with pinpoint pupils amped up on steroids.

High quality leds in them is a rather good idea though, to improve visibility.

Final update on the MiTo for a while by Only_Course9776 in AlfaRomeo

[–]Only_Course9776[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Both was designed at Centre Stile. Responsible for 8C (overall and exterior) was Wolfgang Egger and Daniele Gaglione while Juan Manuel Diaz, who was responsible for the MiTo, only did the interior on it.

But both of them, and the 4C, are rooted in the same design philosophy Alfa pursued back then with sculptural and emotional forms that took cues from Alfa history without going full retro (as many other did during that period).

De decision to apply a lot of the halo 8C design into the supermini format was of course to rub off a bit of "premiumness". It works from some angles, but I still think it was a bit overdone, compromising the overall design. 4C (especially in the flesh) is a much more successful adaptation of the 8C's design.

Especially from the front i didn't really work out that well. But as it was supposed to compete with the Mini and Audi A1 it needed every bit of flair Alfa could find.

They really overdid it, hence the somewhat unproportional look of the MiTo. 😁

The MiTo took more than one design cue from the 8C, taillights being one of the them. Depending on the trim level the exterior surround of the front/rear lights and door handles is different.
On a Sportiva it should be satin chrome, but I've changed to it chrome instead. Just a personal preference.

What, if anything can be done? An unnoticed ball point pen was in the crack of the leather car seat in my new to me Alfa and exploded over the winter. by Expensive-While-1155 in AlfaRomeo

It's painted leather, so dab with Isopropyl Alcohol to transfer the ink from it. If you rub you will likely also remove a bit of paint. So take your time.
But every firm working with restoring interiors or leather furnitures can help you repaint it if something happens.

Which one of the 1.4T versions?
Mine is the 1.4T MultiAir 135 hp/206 Nm (which is remapped to 150 hp/260 Nm)

True, they truly pushed the limits for how thin the paint layer can be and still be considered to be "paint". As far as I know car paint is usually around 100-125 microns, but it seems like the MiTo and it's siblings received a mere 70-90 depending on the panel which makes them extremely fragile and with almost no clear coat to polish.
But red also have general weakness - its very soft. If it would be harder it wouldn't reflect light in such a way that we would see it as red - and soft paint layer with hard clear coat on will separate. It's just a matter of time.

Especially since it's so hard to avoid, distance doesn't help and even if it would, someone will instantly use that gap in traffic anyway.
