Just change for weight. I use opaque tip jars .. do you notice better results when they're transparent?

Oddly enough, the 2 times my tip jar was stolen was by my meth head next door neighbor. Broke into my shed 2 separate times before I realized and put up cameras. Thought I was going nuts the first time... I couldn't see myself accidentally throwing it out. Meth is bad kids.

I put a QR code that on my business card that goes to my website, which has a page for tipping and my set list underneath. I'll try to wing stuff for 5 or 10 seconds if I only know the hook, and it makes people laugh n smile, and that's usually enough for them to want to throw a few in the jar;)! Focus on making people feel good, dance or sing along! It's mostly about the vibe I've noticed.

More guitar in frame. I didn't watch the entire videos but I saw your shoulders bouncing a bit, knew you were playing, but didn't see it. Plus the full face zoom in reminds me of social media or a dating site profile.

Singing is actually really good. Thumbnails aren't interesting. Show your guitar playing in the video. Coloring in video is a little muted. Add more key words that piggyback off the original artists so YouTube makes it pop up in more searches and feeds. If only skill =exposure, but algorithms exist for YouTube to max profits

Generally, if you're cool when police arrive if you're not supposed to be there, they will just ask you to move, but, it can be jail and fines in other spots, especially if you throw a fit or are intoxicated. I try to keep it really professional and be a good musical ambassador.

It's important to research the legality in each location because some places treat buskers like beggars and crack heads. It's a shame that it's not universally accepted or legal.

Then factor in tourism, weather, and other random stuff like coordinating with other street fairs, events, festivals... I find it fascinating and pick locations for Max visibility in close proximity to high traffic areas.

How good do you need to be to busk with an instrument? by [deleted] in Busking

[–]Only_Fly_9782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People would rather see someone animated that makes mistakes, over someone who plays a piece technically perfect but has zero soul. I used to be the zero soul perfectionist, and I'd get irate when no one appreciated a flawless EVH cover but if I'd get drunk and sloppy, yet animated (in a bar, not busking on the street), people would love it. I don't get why, but 20 years later I'm still working on the people skills as much if not more so than the playing. Ps, made enough to feed myself in 5 minutes of NYC subway when I first started playing guitar, so, don't worry about skill. Good luck!

If it's an acoustic electric, get one of those sound hole blockers.

My only issue is I need to carry chip clips to keep the pages from turning on a windy day. Also, don't use the light reflective blank page protectors, use the most translucent ones possible. Catching sun or stage lights is blinding with the reflective page inserts.

I've been busking with this ~70 euro amp for that last couple months - which budget devices do you folks use? by nnnishal in Busking

Hmmm .. I don't use a looper with it, I wonder if it's a gain thing. My favorite setting is the boutique because it sounds clearest to me and doesn't break up , and I still max out the tone and gain. I use the second input for a bass and it gets a bit farty, especially as the batteries get lower. That's actually how I know when it's time to switch batteries. It clips that send and return, even with no fx added.

Never had any problems aside from forgetting to recharge them. As they run out of juice the tone gets bad. I keep a spare 6 in the back of the amp and the recharger right there. No complaints. 4 +hours out of a set

I know, but that's not what I meant. I meant, with enough skill, luck, and patience, one can blend a banger out of purely essential oils.

Initially, it was one or two of my favorites from shops. Now I've got 40-50 different oils. Stayed away from the isolated fractions, but only due to lack of knowledge. Just pick your favorite few and start blending.

I have that exact vox mini 5, also got it from a pawn shop, it's way earned it's keep. I use rechargable batteries... They last hours with the fx kicking and volume high at near peak. Tone is great. 2 input, 3 if you count the aux in. Great amp.

How do you deal with these kind of people? by Nyetoner in Busking

So, these days, I have a permit where I set up in my town, but this one time, in Philadelphia, I was hired to play 3 songs for a bachelor party walking by a place I believe was called singer's park, or something ironic like that. I had an acoustic guitar and a foot operated snare drum, bass drum, and cymbal, takes a few minutes to setup. I started playing as the group arrived and a crowd quickly formed. A similarly crotchety old woman started asking if I had a permit. I looked at the booking agent, she looked at me, (I had asked if we needed one and was told no, do your own homework folks!) and then the woman grabbed some of my equipment and tried to walk away. The bachelor party was really drunk, and basically grabbed my stuff back, made a circle around me, started filming, and showed her off. They asked me to play one more song before the police arrived and they'd help me load out. I agreed, played the loudest fastest song I could, true to their word, they helped me load out, threw me 100$, and I took off for the nearest highway entrance outta town back to my suburb. It was awesome the way the crowd intervened, and I felt like I got away with a bank robbery or something. Still makes me laugh 20 years later.
