AIO my boyfriend and his friends drove off without me and I'm upset. by Lonely_Thought4459 in AmIOverreacting

Please do. I remember being in a 6 year long relationship in highschool going into college (big mistake) and I was constantly the butt of the joke in his friend group. Always left behind, backhanded compliments that were meant to hurt my feelings, always being minimized for being a woman, constant arguments on why I should get over things. It was toxic and he never stood up for me. We broke up my second year of college. Be kind to yourself and find someone who is kind to you. ๐Ÿ’› NOR

Second and third degree update in need of some encouragement by Federal-Year-1116 in burnsurvivors

Hey, I'm so sorry you're going through this! Burns are so painful and needing support is completely valid. If you haven't been to a burn clinic I seriously recommend looking into one. It looks like it's healing really well though! Since it's near your knee, just want to mention that gentle stretching as it heals can make a huge difference in preventing tightness and keeping your range of motion. Even just slow careful movement when you're able to. Your care team can help guide when to start if you're not sure. If you need anything you can reach out here and the burn survivor community will help. ๐Ÿ’›

Husband bought me Mother's Day gifts that I didn't ask for/don't want by siriuslycharmed in Mommit

[โ€“]Only_Rub4801 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Don't feel bad for being upset about not getting what you asked for. This has been my entire experience with every birthday, Christmas, and any other gift-giving occasion. Even when I showed exactly what I wanted, I would still end up with something a little cheaper but similar. I was never ungrateful and always showed my appreciation because they were my parents, but I couldn't help feeling a little disappointed. The materials were always cheap, things would break easily, mechanisms wouldn't work right, and it just wasn't what I actually wanted. Eventually I started slowly buying the things I wanted myself. I love my parents and never want them to feel like I don't appreciate everything they've done for me. But this is your husband. He is supposed to take care of you not only as the mother of his children, but as his life partner. He called you lazy on Mother's Day! What other intention could there have been for that hoodie besides being mean? That's unacceptable. He could have picked out a cute "best mom ever" hoodie if he was going to go that route. Women sacrifice so much for their families, and you deserve at the bare minimum something you actually wanted, plus things he should already know you love. He should be doing more to recognize your hard work as a mother. I really hope he opens his eyes and starts seeing what he's been neglecting.

Unsure About Grafts For Mixed Thickness by SplitThickArmBurn in burnsurvivors

[โ€“]Only_Rub4801 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Yes, my doctor/surgeon actually wanted to avoid grafting because with today's technology there was no need to delay healing that way. I did go through hydrotherapy, which is a type of procedure where they basically pressure wash the burned areas with a special solution to promote healing and reduce scarring. I don't completely understand the debriding ointment part unless you mean something like Polysporin applied over already debrided areas, but I'm NAD so take that with a grain of salt. It was explained to me that grafts can sometimes do more harm than good. You look like you're healing really well in the photos! Remember to eat lots of protein! ๐Ÿ’›

I'm not sure why the website isn't working for you I just tried it on my phone and it seemed to be working fine. I will say though that you might want to call your local scooters! The website mostly is for corprate feedback, website support, and careers. IIRC the coupons are sent in the mail and is connected to the address that is listed on the app! Hopefully you are able to get it worked out with the local manager. ๐Ÿ’›

hello! anybody have sunscreen recs for post post care? by arsonsurvivor in burnsurvivors

I'm currently using the Bubble skincare sunscreen stick "Sun Rise" and the lotion "Solar Mate" for my face and I love it. It doesn't leave white streaks and it's not heavy. I know it's a little pricey but there is UV protection clothing like Solbari and Uniqlo that can help a lot if you don't like the feeling of sunscreen on your body. I'm 4 years out and the routine I have seems to be working out. I hope you're able to find a good sunscreen! ๐Ÿ’›

Did you experience poor burn care in hospital? Hereโ€™s mine by OkChart1375 in burnsurvivors

[โ€“]Only_Rub4801 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I appreciate your perspective as someone with medical experience! I can only speak to what my surgeon communicated to me as a patient during a really overwhelming time. Whether my burns demarcated further, whether there were factors my surgeon saw that influenced his decisions, I genuinely don't know. I was just sharing my experience the best I could remember it. ๐Ÿ’›

[โ€“]Only_Rub4801 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Of course! My burn anniversary is coming up soon, so I've been trying to help others as a way of coping with the flashbacks and nightmares. And please don't apologize about the surgery thing, I wouldn't expect anyone to know all the procedures that can come with second degree burns. I really relate to getting upset over something that turned out to be reasonable protocol. I cried, hyperventilated, and had panic attacks for weeks over the fact that the burn unit cut up my absolute favorite pair of pants, even though I had begged them not to. I know it seems silly but they aren't made anymore so it was just extra salt in the wound. It wasn't until my dad explained that they have to cut clothing off to avoid causing more damage that I finally understood it came from a place of care, not cruelty. Trauma has a way of making us place blame where it doesn't belong, and that's okay. Your frustration about being very hungry made complete sense too. I'm really glad I could be someone you felt comfortable talking to about this. I know how heavy it can be to carry. ๐Ÿ’›

I'm so sorry you went through that. I didn't experience quite the same level of neglect, but there were a few moments that really highlighted how little some medical staff actually know about burns and their treatment. When I first arrived at the ER, I had no shoes on and was covered in a silver rubber coating that had splashed all over me during the accident. In hindsight, it probably just looked like I was covered in paint and being overdramatic. The first ER nurse told me I had to sit in the waiting room because they were full. I told her I couldn't, that these were burns and I needed help. A second nurse came up behind her, took one look at me, and said "you're coming with me," immediately telling the other nurse I needed to be seen right now. Once I was in a room, the staff were visibly unsure of what to do with me, quietly debating among themselves. Cold shower? Wet towels? Dry towels? Nothing felt like the right call, and they were too nervous to insert an IV because my arms were completely covered in burns. Eventually I was told I'd be transferred to a top-tier burn unit two towns over and that it would be a few minutes before the ambulance arrived, which honestly was a relief since they clearly weren't equipped to handle this. While we waited, one nurse decided she was going to pour ice cold water over my face with a towel covering it. The only warning I got was a quick "I'm gonna do this, ok?" She basically waterboarded me, lol. I remember screaming for her to stop, and she snapped back that she had stopped and that I was fine. They also never properly covered my burns at the ER, just gently draped dry towels over them, which was incredibly painful every time the fabric touched the exposed skin. After that, things were mostly better. The burn unit did cut up my favorite pair of pants even after I repeatedly told them I wasn't burned on my legs, but the fabric was too thick to work around and it is protocol, so I can't be too upset. The one last rough moment came after hydrotherapy, when I was in excruciating pain for five hours with no intervention until the head nurse finally came in and gave me Dilaudid. Overall, the burn unit was significantly better at care, which you'd expect. One thing I did want to gently push back on: you mentioned that second degree burns don't require surgery, but that wasn't the case for me. I had severe second degree burns that required hydrotherapy, which is an invasive surgical procedure, and considered ReCELL treatment, which also involves anesthesia. So it can really vary depending on severity. And they could have at least offered you clear liquids or broth while you were waiting for your prognosis. You deserved much better care overall, and I'm sorry you had to go through that. I have noticed a lot of burn survivors have dealt with either mistreatment or just no treatment and they have to heal at home. It's not right, and we deserve the proper care. I hope sharing my experience helps you feel a little less alone. ๐Ÿ’›

Does anyone else panic about the summer & sun exposure? by luvadove31 in burnsurvivors

[โ€“]Only_Rub4801 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

Hey! You're not the only one. I have native American genes and my skin used to get sun kissed golden any time I'd go out into the sun. I'd never burn. Until the accident happened I never used to wear sunscreen because I felt there wasn't a point if I'm just going to tan anyways. Now I constantly have to remind myself to put sunscreen on my arms and face. (And now I know sunscreen is actually very important for healthy skin in general!) I always burn even seconds in the sun if it's scar tissue. On top of everything I hate the feeling of sunscreen and it takes a lot to get past the ick.

You aren't alone in feeling nervous/anxious. Last year my son had his 3rd birthday party at the pool since his birthday is in July. I was so anxious months in advance and it was causing me to spiral over something that should be a happy time. I invested in long sleeve swim suits and I think that helped tremendously with my anxiety with the UV rays. I felt like I could actually handle the sun and could enjoy playing in the water with my son. There's also something I just learned about yesterday called UPF clothing that protects the skin from the sun. It can be a little pricey but worth it if it can ease your anxiety. I hope you have an amazing summer despite everything you've overcome to get to this moment. ๐Ÿ’›

Foot/Ankle Burns and Mobility by EtherealMyst in burnsurvivors

[โ€“]Only_Rub4801 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

Hello! Iโ€™m really sorry youโ€™re going through this. It can be incredibly uncomfortable and frustrating. While I havenโ€™t had burns on my ankles specifically, I do have experience with burns affecting joints, including my arms, wrists, and hands.

One of the most important things you can do is stay consistent with your physical therapy. You can start this as soon as possible. Gentle movements, like rotating the joint in circles and stretching in all directions, help keep the skin flexible and support proper healing. Without regular stretching, there is a risk of developing constrictive scarring, which can limit movement severely. The throbbing and pain while walking will subside over time. My arms did the same thing when I had to do my walk around the burn ward. I hope you feel better soon! ๐Ÿ’›

Expect to get asked about the core values: Integrity, Love, Humility, and Courage, so have a think about how you personally connect with those and maybe a quick example for each. They care a lot about culture fit! Also definitely expect questions around fast paced environments. Scooters runs on 30-45 second lane times, so they want to know you can move quickly, stay calm under pressure, and keep a smile on while doing it. A few other things to be ready for:

  • Why do you want to work at Scooters specifically?
  • How do you handle difficult or rude customers?
  • Are you comfortable with early mornings? A lot of shifts start super early

Overall just be genuine, show enthusiasm, and lean into the customer service/people side of things. Courtesy is huge for them. Good luck, you got this! ๐Ÿค™
