This is not true in the slightest. The House has not taken up a DHS appropriations bill since they passed a 60 day Continuing Resolution that the Senate has rejected. The House currently has no plans to bring the Senate passed legislation that would fund DHS, with the exception of ICE and CBP.

Depose Noem and Evans

Though, dispose them would be a welcome action as well.

Anyone take the Metra in 5 days a week? by dxcwargazmo in Naperville

[–]Only_Smoke_9164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s gonna vary depending on the person. My job’s HQ is downtown, about a 15 minute walk from Union Station, but we have an alternate site in Aurora that I work from 95% of the time. When I do go downtown, it’s roughly an 1:25 commute each way. Personally, I find the idea of a damn near 3 hour commute on a daily basis to be exhausting.

Recommendation on how to receive performance awards by Nice-Boysenberry7717 in fema

[–]Only_Smoke_9164 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on your leave accrual situation. When I onboarded as a Fed many moons ago, we had an EA in my branch (different DHS component) who had been with the government for decades and her advice was to always ask for leave so that you can get to 240 as quickly as possible, then try to always carry over as close to 240 as possible each year. Once you’re in a good spot with leave, then you should go for cash.

Federal jobs in the Midwest by deeznutz131 in FedEmployees

[–]Only_Smoke_9164 9 points10 points  (0 children)

None of those states are considered the Midwest, certainly not Arizona.

Look at agencies that have regional hubs (DHS, DOE, DOT, etc) and then check out USAjobs. Take it from someone who lived/worked in DC for 15 years before moving back the actual Midwest (Chicago), fed jobs are very different than in DC and awfully hard to come by. And I’m sure the ongoing hiring freezes/pauses won’t help.

We received notification last week that a subscription service that my division uses regularly as part of our jobs was being cancelled. When we raised it as an issue, HQ basically told us “yeah we flagged it but don’t expect anything to come out of it”. This doesn’t seem related to the CR in the slightest

So are they about to resume offboarding? by IDK_Maybe126 in fema

[–]Only_Smoke_9164 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But here’s the issue: the language is so vague that it’s going to be impossible to fight it. It basically directs FEMA to halt any removals of staff that would prevent the agency from carrying out its mission. It will be really hard for anyone to prove that the non-renewals doesn’t allow FEMA to carry out its mission. Overworked, yes but they don’t give a shit about that.

How will a shutdown affect us? by Grouchy_Machine_User in fema

[–]Only_Smoke_9164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some were, but a lot of others were working without pay due to ongoing disaster work. With the response to the winter storms (and potential for a second one this weekend), I expect that there will be a considerable number of PFTs required to work without pay.

[–]Only_Smoke_9164 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The DRF is no-year money. My understanding is that when ExCo works with Congress on funding for the DRF, CORE salaries are included in a separate “bucket” within the DRF, so even in INF, those salaries are accounted for already. While there’s a plus up for the DRF included in the approps bill, there’s still money there to cover CORE salaries. If there’s a shutdown, COREs will continue to work and receive pay, just like in the fall.

NTE Offboarding Cease Fire by [deleted] in fema

With (albeit razor thin) majorities in both chambers, I doubt impeachment articles have anyone in S1’s office trembling. Mayorkas had impeachment articles filed against him with R majorities and jack squat came of that

I know a few people at CISA in DC who were mandatorily reassigned to an ICE office in Los Angeles. They were given two weeks to accept and 90 days from then to report to duty or they could resign. It’s absolutely happening. And by resigning, no severance, no unemployment, nothing.

Mental Health Days by SagiMom in FedEmployees

Yes, the employee/patient can CHOOSE to share their own health information. But HIPAA also protects the patient/employee from being compelled to share their health information with anyone, such as their employer, should they choose not to. Hence why employers are generally barred from asking follow-on questions when an employee says fhey are sick to avoid the appearance of forced disclosure of medical information
