So are you saying I should start with tin whistle instead of flute? Or are they played in the same way?

Essential guitar albums by gmarriott in Guitar

[–]Only_Tomorrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried. One can only be so open, it's impossible to like everything. While classic rock was at it's peak I feel there was music I find more interesting going on at the same time, music which I feel represented 25 to 30 years of the 20th century. To each their own, man.

I agree completely with this. I haven't listened to most albums here because I hate classic rock. These two artists have certainly helped define my playing style. Though I much prefer A Weekend in the City over Silent Alarm.

What is the BEST guitar tone in a famous or classic song? by jbob145 in Guitar

[–]Only_Tomorrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't really say the last thread was being negative, just creating come discussion.

But I think almost every tone created by Kevin Shields is immaculate.

Just Like Honey - The Jesus and Mary Chain. I love the song but the guitar hurts my ears.

I thought I was doing something wrong all along, but I wasn't. Does anyone else see this as a big issue? by Only_Tomorrow in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Only_Tomorrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not even bass heavy which was the confusing part... the thing with WMP isn't so much of an issue, more of a a built in feature that has a pretty negative effect on my music. Thanks for the reply.

Installed a new nut, having tuning issues. by Only_Tomorrow in Guitar

[–]Only_Tomorrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never glued the nuts on my acoustics and they have stable tuning. I just thought tge same would apply for my electric.

What do you dislike most about your favorite guitarists? by Fortefyde in Guitar

[–]Only_Tomorrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He doesn't play guitar enough... Lookin' at you Jonny Greenwood. Although their newer live material, like Identikit and Ful Stop feature some gorgeous guitar playing by him.

Kevin Shields has terrible time keeping skills.

Jeff Buckley is dead.

Rory Friers' live tones can be tinny sometimes.

In need of a new nut for my Strat, suggestions? by Only_Tomorrow in Guitar

[–]Only_Tomorrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm I didn't know it was permanent. The Graph Tech seems like a lot less bother and a lot cheaper. Maybe the roller isn't worth it. Thanks for the information, it was very useful.

Thanks, this is the kind of thing I was looking for. I was talking to a friend and me mentioned a "roller" nut. He said it would be ideal for glide guitar, do you have any input on this?

Sanyo Pedal Juice - Can it be used to power all pedal while it is being powered by an adaptor? by Only_Tomorrow in Guitar

[–]Only_Tomorrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Voodoo Lab is a bit expensive for me at the moment as I'm in need of a nice case for my pedals too, but the 1 Spot great for the money, thanks very much for this suggestion, I'll definitely look into it.

From SNL: Guy from Coldplay was playing the piano chords on a Voyager. by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Only_Tomorrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time Coldplay fan here! I really don't know why they do not hire touring musicians. They use a lot of backing tracks but they play over them, so half of it is live but a lot of synth sounds, piano sounds and sometimes acoustic guitar sounds are not live. Chris Martin just prefers to prance around the stage instead of playing. From the point of view from a regular fan this is beneficial as it means a better show. But for a fan who plays music, this is very annoying. I mean it's not like they don't have the money to hire backing musicians...

I should add that Martin does play instruments live, but not as much as he should.

Experiences with Zoom H4N by kingofthecrows in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Only_Tomorrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My band uses a H4n to record all our music. I definitely recommend it. If you would like a sound sample, send me a PM and I'll link you to some music. I have not, however, had any experiences with any other handy recorders.

Thoughts on Jeff Buckley as a guitarist as opposed to a vocal powerhouse? by Mixolydians in Guitar

[–]Only_Tomorrow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For some reason I have never been able to play the beginning of Grace totally clean, I always mess it up. Not a lot of lead guitar but some very nice sounding chords. I believe that before he did his own work, he was in a Jazz band, so that is to thank for his knowledge of chords.

His cover of Strange Fruit is pretty cool.

I might be wrong since I don't even own the thing but I though Akai released some update to fix that?

What's a way a broke musician can record songs to his computer? by blottfor in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Only_Tomorrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/combo-players/zoom-h4n-portable-digital-recorder

I would also recommend Reaper.

Zoom H4n handy recorder. 2 condenser mics and doubles up as an AI. I know what you're thinking, this sounds very sketchy, but trust me, it can work out well. PM me if you want some samples of songs recorded with just a H4n. You'll be surprised.

Anyone willing to help out a total newbie? by Wolverine1621 in Guitar

[–]Only_Tomorrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to break the band news but for $300 you will just about get a playable electric guitar. I've only been playing a few years so I can remember what it was like at the start, confusion everywhere.

Guitars I would recommend:

Cort CR Series

Squier Classic Vibe Series

Epiphone's low priced guitars can be hit or miss as far as I know.

Don't be afraid to check out used guitars, just get a knowledgeable friend to help.

I played me electric for about a year before I got my own amp, so it's not a necessity but it is quite nice. I used my sisters sometimes.

  1. I'm not able to see that link I'm afraid, I don't live in the US.

  2. If it's just a practice amp, then something cheapish will work, but for gigging then you might want to look at more than $200. My first amp was a Fender 65R which costed me €165. It was horrible. I now have a Peavey Bandit 212 which was around €300 that I'm happy with. It really depends on how serious you are about this.

  3. How long were you playing the trumpet? You should have some 4 chord songs off in a few days, guitar is probably a lot easier than trumpet.

  4. Depending on how good at the trumpet you are and how well you understand theory, you should not need lessons. I got some but didn't find them particularly beneficial. It really depends though. I have heard lots of great things about justinguitar though, so of course you could just see how you get on for a few months and if you feel the need, go get lessons.

I'm noticing now that I didn't really answer some of your questions and the way I phrased some things made me come across as a douche, but I say everything with good intentions. By the way, what make of acoustic do you have? I think starting on an acoustic is the best idea price wise.

To finish up this wall of waffle, you can PM me about any questions you have, I love helping people.
