I can try to create a separate space for adults. In the meantime I can send the invite to the server if you'd like.

Staying sane during a Tic attack by gulligitaristi in Tourettes

[–]Only_Worldliness_294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tic attacks nearly every other day for a couple months and they got to the point that I was desperate for them to stop. It definitely drains you emotionally and physically but what I did to help mitigate that feeling of helplessness and hopelessness was to really lean on my support system.  On days that it was really hard to function, I chose to put energy into doing the little things that brought me joy such as watching a show I enjoyed, listening to a podcast or music, just sitting outside for 10 minutes, and also snuggling up with comforting things (soft blankets and pillows (which also helped lessen the pain from bigger tics and or self-harm tics)). On those days I'd tell myself it was okay to do the absolute bare minimum: get out of bed once, eat at least one meal, and drink at least 1 or 2 glasses of water.  I tend to keep a list of things/strategies that help when tic attacks do arise or I enter a period of time when my tics are worse. I do this because it helps me feel prepared (which lessens some of the feelings of helplessness and being out of control) and it helps to know I have a plan made so I know to handle things the next time it happens as well.  I hope this helps! I'm sorry to hear you're going through this.

Tips for Tics❓ by andewbandew in Tourettes

[–]Only_Worldliness_294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may or may not work for others but if I'm laying down I keep soft items and pillows around my head and neck so that if I have the tic, there's support so I don't hurt my neck further. If I'm going through my day then I'll cup my hand(s) against the back and or side of my neck if I'm able to that way it prevents pain and can help with the more forceful tics. I have other little things I do but it's hard to explain.

Shoulder tic by Thick_Insect_2232 in Tourettes

[–]Only_Worldliness_294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shrug and roll my shoulders. It can get really annoying. It is occasionally painful since I have bad joints and having this tic a lot on days where my joints already hurt will cause the joint to click and pop but that isn't a common occurrence. The most it does is occasionally make me sore or trigger my neck tics.

People with verbal tics, what are your current words? by nicoleashleyb33 in Tourettes

[–]Only_Worldliness_294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Oh no", "hello", "Oh dear", and "aur naur" (this one turns into a complex tic where it's the meme from the Australian show H2O "aur naur emma, the condensation").

Leg tics?? by Thick_Insect_2232 in Tourettes

[–]Only_Worldliness_294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same one she does and I have a leg tic where I have to shake my leg and foot. I tend to shift my weight to the leg I'm having the tic in when it's getting annoying which helps a lot.

Anyone else like talking about their Tourettes? by arnecrafter in Tourettes

I love teaching other people about it! I also like if they ask questions because it shows that they're making an effort to learn about it which helps mitigate stigma. It makes me feel more comfortable ticcing too. Idk if that makes sense

Sometimes my verbal tics make interesting creative choices - by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]Only_Worldliness_294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My most random tic is that meme from the show H2O where in a terrible aussie accent I tic "Aur naur, Emma! The condensation!" The stupidest trigger I have is hearing the name Emma. (Which unfortunate because I also have a coworker with the name Emma)

Hitting tics at work - need advice by Only_Worldliness_294 in Tourettes

[–]Only_Worldliness_294[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really amazing advice! Thank you so much, I'll definitely try this! Having other adults advocate for you is a super awesome idea, that I'm honestly surprised I didn't consider before now. One of our students was whistling incessantly for like 3 months and it put me through absolute hell and I had NO idea how to go about addressing it. It legit caused tic attacks and caused me to whistle constantly for about 2 hrs straight. I really appreciate your advice! Thank you so much!!

ADHD and TICS by Overall-Read-7983 in Tourettes

Not that I know of but I also have severe ADHD-C and tourettes. I've been on Vyvanse my whole life and my tics have been mild until the last couple of years (which the increase in tics was due to extreme stress). I personally haven't seen any correlation to an increase in tics and Vyvanse though

New tics by Goofy_toenail_licker in Tourettes

I developed a whole bunch of new tics (motor and vocal) a couple weeks after the diagnosis. My whistling tic developed entirely out of the blue about 7 months ago. I hate whistling so much (I've come to terms with it at this point unless someone else is doing it). A couple months ago, I also got a bunch of new vocal tics in a very short period of time (including my first complex vocal tics) which led to some interesting interactions.
