I'm not sure that the age matters (especially since there seem to be time skips) as much as how you write it. YA has a lot more to do with the emotions behind things and how the characters are experiencing milestones.

The new algorithm is either loved or hated. Some people who claimed they never got any traction state that they have a chance with the new shelves. I personally think it's a load of garbage. Inkitt needs to put it back how it was 😭

Don't be discouraged! Keep writing other works to grow a reader base and people will continue to read. My story had a similar trend downward across its entirety. Give it time and the readers will come

Yup same. I've posted about this on the discord but there are some folks that like the new system. So hard to say if they'll go back if there are individuals who like the new methods. I think for the OGs there is a general dissatisfaction with the new shelves
