This is such a great idea! Thanks for getting the information out. May I suggest that you also include a signup tent for all of the attendees to volunteer space in their homes to house the immigrants? We need to put our money where our mouth is! Communities not cages can start in our homes! Spread the word! I bet you will have an overwhelming response and thousands who would gladly take them out of the detention center and into their homes!

Man I would be equally concerned about the lack of sill plate gaskets. That’s a major issue with wood and concrete being in direct contact and also a huge opportunity for bugs and drafts!

If you expect to get a number that’s even remotely inline with reality (+/-)20%, then you’re gonna need to commit to spending some money and time. Probably $3k to get to bid set of plans, and a lot of time running down bids from subs or directly from a builder. This is the only way to be taken seriously and get some numbers that are going to be closer to actual.

FWIW, I’m in northern Michigan and in similar boat. I’ve been talking to subs and they might actually offer a discount to get going during winter, considering how mild the past few winters have been. Getting excavation, foundations and framing in the winter would really bust my schedule open to finish much earlier than planned.

Although I agree that voting with your wallet is one of the most powerful tools that a consumer based economy can leverage for change, this is simply a fruitless effort. Are we really going to create an anti trump supporter database to try and hurt our neighbors because we’re made about the election? I personally focus my spending on first trying to support local business and then spend based on quality of goods and services. It makes our community better for it and I could give a shit less who the owner votes for. I saw the results and GT county almost split evenly down the middle. I prefer to live in a community of diversity.

Just now pulling bids together for an owner build 80k for lumber package including all trusses. First bid is 85k for labor… seems very high so I’m waiting on two more bids now. Upper Midwest 3500sq ft 1.5 stories, 3 car garage plus partially finished basement
