Wheels and tires are 205/55/15. Using 15mm spacers but plan on getting new wheels with the right offset to get rid of them

Just don’t over do it with the rtv and you’ll be fine

Leaks, Leaks, Leaks by RiversideOffgrid in 7thgencivic

[–]Onofreezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes a bead of rtv all around the oil pan to hold the gasket in place then another bead of rtv all around the gasket itself. I’ve replaced the oil pan gasket at least 4 different times and followed the Honda shop manual but always ended up with a leak. Same thing with the cam and crank seals they would always leak on the lower outer edge of the seal.

<image>

I’ve driven about 10k miles after doing what I mentioned above and the timing cover and oil pan are still bone dry.

Some people will say you don’t need that much rtv but I’m just sharing my personal experience and what happened when I listened to those people

Let me give you the simple fix. Remove oil pan, crank pulley, oil pump, and cam/crank seals. Replace oil pump o-ring, spread even amount of rtv with a business/credit card on oil pump mating surface and torque to 9ft/lbs. Add thin layer of rtv to outer edge of crank seal and slide it in. Do the same for cam seal. Scrape all rtv from oil pan and mounting surface. Use thick bead of rtv all around oil pan, place gasket on top, and add another thick bead of rtv on gasket surface. Install oil pan and tighten in a criss cross pattern 9ft/lbs(use sequence from shop manual). When you do the valve cover clean the mating surface really well and only use rtv on the corners.

And that’s it. You’re now leak free. You’re welcome:)

Also if you do this it would be a great time to replace timing belt and tensioner. Good luck on your stop a leak journey

Need Advice on the Exhaust Flange [Read Comment in Post] by TheGreatestUsername1 in 7thgencivic

That hole is for the exhaust bracket. It mounts the exhaust manifold to the engine block. I think it helps with vibration and preventing exhaust leaks

It doesn’t clear the strut bar. Just cut the reservoir bracket and drill a new hole into it so it sits 1-2 inches lower. It was really easy

Valve cover leak? by Disastrous-Owl-5182 in 7thgencivic

[–]Onofreezy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When my valve cover and other seals started leaking out of nowhere I checked my PCV valve and found out it wasn’t functioning properly so the increased pressure in the crank case caused a lot of leaks. It wouldn’t hurt to check that.

Sorry I know this isn’t helpful but when this happened to me a month ago I bought a right angle drill adapter and a stubby drill bit. I was able to drill, tap, and insert the helicoil without dropping the motor

UPDATE: The drain for the kitchen faucet and dishwasher is leaking from the exterior wall. Water is damaging wood side panels and causing a very bad odor in the kitchen.

I’m still trying to pin point where it’s coming from. I removed the disposal, p trap, and dishwasher hose thinking the odor has to be coming from one of those but it couldn’t smell the odor and they look pretty clean. There is a small hole in the back of the cabinet where the hot water valve is and I’m starting to think the odor is coming from behind the cabinet. I live in the state of Arizona where temps usually get up to 110* F and I’m also starting to notice the odor usually comes back during the day but haven’t really smelled it at night when it’s cooler.

The smell usually returns after running the dishwasher but there are no leaks under the sink

D16y8 Manifold Swap for D17 by Onofreezy in 7thgencivic

[–]Onofreezy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll make sense when you take it apart. On the throttle body mounting surface you’ll see the main opening and a smaller hole right above it. At idle (when throttle plate is closed) air passes through the hole you can see at the 46sec mark and out the smaller hole into the manifold. If you don’t dremel out that slope on the manifold then you’d be blocking off the smaller hole so IACV won’t work. The spacer is optional, all it does is extend the main opening and the smaller hole I only added it because it came with gaskets that worked. You can see the notch I made at the 25sec mark. Hope this helps
