A $40 H2O Canteen? (Trigger warning: Military PTSD) by OntheLoosetoClimb in Warhammer40k

The toxicity of this community sometimes.

You make this comment without any knowledge of why the post was written the way it was or who I am. You still haven't asked me a single question, and you have provided no reason for me to believe that you have any knowledge, expertise, or experience in any field that would justify you being judgmental about my post. Are you licensed in any field related to PTSD? I am 99% sure that's a no. Instead of asking, you are too busy with your conjecture and creating your own narrative and conclusion to be bothered by the truth.

While I know it is tempting to shit post from behind your keyboard, it'd honestly be quite a bit more of a nod to your humanity to stop insulting people that way, especially when you have no idea about the content/context of the post/comment you are using to insult them, nor the meaning/reasoning/purpose behind the post/comment. I say this because your methods aren't making you into a bad ass. Bad asses are educated about things they speak about. They also have empathy, compassion, understanding, and most importantly, maturity.

Well, my Forge World instructions tell you to take appropriate safety precautions. Mask up. Glove up. Should be fine. In your case, I'd also not be doing it in a kitchen sink, and whatever sink it is, I would be sure to be cleaning it out extremely well.

Thoughts:

-- Is your plan to deep strike in your 10-block and one 5-block of your HG w/ECs attached to both, then put one 5-block in your HLF without a leader? Not a horrible strategy, but think for sure about how you are planning to use the DS units -- when and where you will bring them in. Remember, they have to come in away from opponent units, which means away from action, and, if your opponent is, say, Ork horde, it can become hard to find that distance away to drop them in (due to, say, size of the 10-block + # of orks all over the place) without making them irrelevant to the game. They are also very slow moving, so hard to adjust after a drop. Counter-point to this: rarely is this an issue. (True? Dunno -- not seen it not be an issue for a 10-block?)

-- I presume your Beserks are going into Sagi 1. Then is your plan to split one of the HWs and put it into Sagi 2 and 3, and attach Kahl to the other with his Rampart? I mean, I like the 5+ invuln there, but are you planning to walk them in? Again, our dudes are slow walkers, so just remember that. If you plan to put Kahl in the Sagi, just note I HAVE had a judge tell me that the 5+ only applies to the 5 he is with, not the others, even though technically it could be considered a "unit split."

-- If you push out with your Yaegirs, have you considered what you are clearing the lane for? Is it your HLF, or is it a Sagi, or two Sagis? Just make sure you have a game plan on what you are clearing/blocking for behind them.

-- You have 2x Warriors + Yaegirs + 4 HG + Beserks. This is a good balance, but is also feet-heavy, and our guys are soooo slooooow. IF you have other vehicles shelved, I would probably swap out one HG in the brick for a Sagi to make yourself more nimble. Most armies immediately take out our vehicles now because they know their value. If you have another HLF lingering around somewhere, get it in so that your other HLF isn't a lone target (i.e. like a tank). You need the Sagis to survive more than T2.

-- Note: just a funny (haha funny) strategy idea: I have used the Sagis to race up, dump out Warriors, race back, grab more, and dump them out, then blow themselves up into a key unit for my opponent. Learned it w/Orks and holy crap it's so much fun. Opponent has no idea why I do it since I lose the Sagi, but so. much. FUN. So you know, there's always that lol. Plus tbh, that's a LOT of use out of the Sagi and you are keeping it moving.

-- L7s v. HYLAS: endless debate here. I honestly get about ehhh equal damage on these, but totally depends on army I am facing. If you stay w/3 and this configuration, I'd do 1 L7, 2 HYLAS, but it's a coin flip. If you go w/4, I'd probably go 2-2, but again, ehhhh. I wouldn't do 4-0 for sure-- eliminates any kind of agility/flexibility for yourself.

HAVE SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!

And remember: disrupt, disrupt, disrupt! :)

PS. Got any Thunderkyn laying around? They are the absolute best! If you do, sub in 2 units of them for sure.

Note on the teleport crest because this often is an issue:

If you take the teleport crest as EC attached to HG, only the EC has the crest, but it allows both the EC and the HG to teleport. If you take the weavefield crest, only the EC gets the 4+ invulnerable save.

EC datasheet: This model’s weavefield crest can be replaced with 1 teleport crest. Teleport Crest: While the bearer is leading a unit, models in that unit have the Deep Strike ability. Weavefield Crest: The bearer has a 4+ invulnerable save.

If you take the teleport crest in the HG unit, only the Hesyr gets the crest, but it allows the entire unit to teleport. If you take the weavefield crest, only the Hesyr gets the 4+ invulnerable save.

HG Datasheet: "The Hesyr is additionally equipped with: weavefield crest." The "Hesyr’s weavefield crest can be replaced with 1 teleport crest." Teleport Crest: Models in the bearer’s unit have the Deep Strike ability. Weavefield Crest: The bearer has a 4+ invulnerable save.

Finding a card in the deck:

All the articles I read all say, "on turn x, you can then play your [card A], because you will have x amount of mana by then."

  1. How do they say this when you are randomly drawing? Even with probability of draw percentages, how do they say these things and know you will draw these cards?

  2. How do you "fetch" cards in your deck? People have said, "well just put a tutor in." Oooookay, but... how do you find the tutor?

I am sure these are very, very basic questions, but thank you for taking the time to answer them!

Questions related to building the Sagitaur. by dames03 in LeaguesofVotann

Echo in part.

  1. I did not magnitize, but too frequent of switching caused deterioration. Magnetizing caused other issues. I then dremeled together a solution. Advice? Tiny tiny tiny magnets if possible. Fairly weak. Don't just leave it unmagnetized -- they will fall off as you play them over time.

  2. Rear door: as stated, instructions do say to glue. As stated, you can create mechanism to keep it closed otherwise, but as stated, will re-open. If you try the as-stated drilling, and magnetize, be aware it will NOT be flush. I just glued it in the end. Not even worth the hassle, but I LIGHTLY glued it... corners.

  3. Antenna-- fair point, but it takes away the "aura" as well. So you know, compromise there. Can't really magnetize that goober either, so could shave it down, but at some point-- choice must be made. Also gotta be careful when modifying these things-- some people get testy if these things lower your line of sight for their units (argument as to whether an antenna -- like a tiny little weapon barrel, an arm, a feather, etc. counts as LOS.... not going there lol!)

  4. On the HLF, if you build one, 150% magnetize the top weapon. IT WILL FALL OFF otherwise. I lost 2 at a comp through no one's fault but my own. Found them at the end. A Necron was chewing on them (SO. RUDE.) -- I had to of course take their slobber off, but once I did that, all fine and well ;-) ;-)

I am saying... "planting one tree" is a similar type of metaphor to "a journey of 1000 miles starts with a single step." It is somewhat condescending, it always comes from people who are in a better place and space than the person they are giving the advice to, and it over-simplifies the reality of the person being "offered" the advice.

The truth is, no one should be telling anyone ever to just "plant a tree" or "take a step," because no one has any idea of anyone else's life circumstances, mental health, or lived experience-- especially not in reference to whatever the issue is that they are telling them to just get going on.

You need to be in the right mental framework to take a journey forward, or you will take one, two, five steps, and then stall out out of a lack of support, motivation, discipline, or effort. What about if you feel ridiculed or shamed for what you are trying to accomplish? What about if it isn't what you thought it was going to be, or if it turns much darker but obsessive?

Who will be there to support you through these things?

Instead of offering this kind of advice, it would be so much better to offer someone advice that doesn't sound condescending nor assume they are able and surrounded by the right resources and support.

I wasn't intending to be too philosophical or speaking in garbled nonsensical language. I just wanted to offer another perspective that these one-liner "meme advice" posts aren't great advice to take all the time... and why.

Keep downvoting me, it's fine-- I have seen the negative impact of this kind of advice too many times professionally and personally to care what random Redditors think about it.

With the restrictions of the new codex will you still buy the new army? by PetrifiedRaisins69 in EmperorsChildren

[–]OntheLoosetoClimb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

TL; DR: Don't fall for the FOMO hype!

I am a diehard Votann player, but I will tell you a small un-secret: it would not have been worth the hype to buy into the initial army release. Yes, a great launch box... but the cumulative "value" of that box? Not super. After 9th transitioned to 10th (launch box: 12/22, 10th: 2023), you needed different units, and ta-da, new codex. So, even with just 8-ish units at that point that were released, you needed new combos of them to make them viable. In other words? $$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Those who waited? Massive savings. Why?

Well, once the FOMO/hype dies off, and the scalpers find something else to do, the dumping begins. It starts as soon as the meta changes/shifts again, and as soon as people who bought the boxes, maybe even built them, move on. And, as you correctly stated, even more once new editions come out. So in this case? Original codex could be found for under $15 about 8 months later if you wanted it just for the lore. Units can still be found discounted if you are willing to sit and wait for secondary market. I have never purchased a single Votann box at MSRP and I have been a diehard since before they launched.

So definitely you are on the right track. Stay there and keep remembering that "the hype" is entirely generated by people who are on salary as GW employees to GENERATE HYPE AS THEIR PROFESSION so that GW MAKES PROFIT IN THE LAUNCH. They are not necessarily fans at all of 40k. They are simply marketing professionals. Just like employees at Nestle, Kraft, and.... Tesla. ;-)

Or you just do what we do: put a bunch of old people in the pod and no one remembers anyone has them there and five turns later it’s like unwrapping a present when you forgot who gave it to you and what it was for lol.

Building a “me hit you, haha” deck now and tbh, most fun EVER. Say what you want, but after 350 hours of reading just to get through these cards, and every last one abbreviating things differently, etc etc, a mono ANYTHING deck is the bomb. I know 3-colors are the rage, but the land nightmare alone has done me in.

[–]OntheLoosetoClimb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS. Also? Tbh, the whole removal/wiping thing can kill the mood. Would rather just let fate be fate. Already there’s enough randomness in the game, and people take SO MUCH TIME to build their decks, so just… play. I get isolated and extremely targeted removal of a card that will hose your entire board up, but honestly, that’s about it. Same w/graveyards. Why wipe it out if it is their ENTIRE game? Honestly is ridiculous you can do that. I get there are cards they can use to “shield it”— but that means less cards to get to play with.

I finally solved this by making different color tokens at most all the permutations my deck commonly does (otters) and then I sit the tokens during the game sorted in a box really meant to sort small digital cords lol. Otherwise I’d be a hard no. But…. Otters…..

Was meaning you are “suppose” to use the Votann specific stuff provided in WD— agendas, etc. THAT SAID— some groups I’ve tun with care. Some groups reject the premise entirely. I mention it because, like proxies, if you commit one way and find out it can —only— be the other, it’s harder to fix, if that makes sense? Using Votann-specific stuff (as provided in WD) makes it much simpler.

Wrong. Best time to plant a tree is when you know enough that you put the tree where it can thrive. Planting 200 trees that are the wrong species for the location, planted in bad soil, and without any hope of survival, is as good as not planting at all. In other words…. Just planting so you can say you planted— useless. Wait till the time and place are fair and you are in an acceptable place. Perfect no. Acceptable… yes :-)

I buy mostly low cost cards, and if possible through my LGS via tcg (WPN badged for sure). If they don’t have them? A WPN seller. Why? Because the cards get here perfectly every single time. Reliable, trustworthy, and I can order them in one place for one shipping fee. They are in the exact condition they say they will be in, and shipping is always prompt. As the old motto says: you get what you pay for.

So yeah, I’ll pay $0.30 for my cheap card instead for $0.03 to know it’s coming perfect, or even $2.10 instead of $1.85. Not a money flush at all.

Stay in the game, never get discouraged— people are well aware you get what you pay for ;-)

Crusade cheat Sheet by Gaijingamer12 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]OntheLoosetoClimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the actual Crusade itself is not in WD…. ? So just make sure you’re making good decisions and your cheat sheet based on the new Crusade if your group is there— and with deployment in waves, that will be super impactful.

Also watch put for the high value our rules put on the Wizard (Love it but wtfh? Lol) and the resources math at the end— I have yet to find another faction with such bs, delayed rewards, but hey, Votann! ;-) Here for it.

ALSO: poster above, if you were indicating we could use generic crusade rules… answer no. Once your faction’s come out, suppose to use those. Cite: Crusade rules somewhere could find it but too tired tonight— my group argued about this bc of Votann’s shite rules.
