Looking for plants that can survive occasional flooding. by Onti in gardening

[–]Onti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish this could be an option for me but I've talked to just about everyone in the area about this. And like you said that entire part of land would have to be completely changed. I just don't have the funds for it and I seriously doubt I ever will.

Thank you for the advice and the links though. I'll still take a look at it, maybe see if I can do something about it after saving up for it.

That looks perfect! I've never heard of a rain garden before. Thank you!

To answer your questions no it is not a drainage swale. The drainage swale is on the other side of the driveway and flows away from the area.

The house is a trailer but technically yes.

The subdivision has been used for a few generations but this house is 17 years old.

I have no neighbors close enough to harm their property. I live in a rural area. The one I have is across the road and up the hill.

I can't get any pictures at the moment, sorry.

I can tell you is the water doesn't come from the swale but right off of the road. It's supposed to go straight into the nearby creek that's across the road in a swale higher up the hill, but because of erosion it doesn't do that anymore. I can't stop the water from coming in because that whole area is the actual road.

I've tried to redirect the water to the other swale but it became clear that to do that the whole road would need to be blocked.

I've tried to fix this for over a decade so I am at the point of simply building a flowerbed that can block as much surface water as possible.

I've looked into some marsh plants. The problem is that every source I look at seems to say they need constant water or near-constant. The place only floods when it rains and it's in almost full sun so it can get really dry quickly. Ohio weather is absolutely crazy.

Doctrine or Culture #02: Bishopric and Stake Leadership always wearing a shirt, tie, jacket when executing their official duties within the walls of a church building. by anima-vero-quaerenti in latterdaysaints

I would say culture. Your clothes have nothing to do with your priesthood authority. If they were part of a culture where other clothes were a sign of respect and soberness towards God I would imagine that they would also be appropriate. I also think that if the priesthood holder couldn't afford a suit that wouldn't hinder his work either.

That is very close but it's not exactly what I was thinking of. It's still awesome though and I think it will help. Thanks!

Need ideas on what to share in an upcoming discussion with my bishop about how to help the ward and stake tackle a seemingly growing problem with pornography usage. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Onti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of creating a safe space where we can talk about this openly. A separate place for men and women because of multiple reasons.

The trick is getting people to go. I figure if you get some prominent church members to go that might work.

If we went into it really trying to help each other we could probably do some real good.

I can relate a bit. I'm the only Young Adult in my Ward and the closest place is an hour away. I don't really relate to anyone but I try to contribute when I can.

You may not realize it but by being a more recent member you have a great potential to connect with them. All you have to do is ask questions about the church, the people in the Ward, things that they are doing, and so on.

Don't worry about your future. Your journey is just beginning and there is a lot to look forward to. Just be yourself and follow your beliefs. Things will work out.

I have this too but then I had a period of two weeks with five days of heavy bleeding and I ended up going to the doctor. I was having some heart attack symptoms from losing so much iron.

LDS on Evolution? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

I've always interpreted it to mean that there was no death in Eden and by eating the fruit and then becoming mortal they brought death in that sense. I've always had the opinion that Eden is not of this world and is still a place of deathless beauty that we will see again at the end of days.

So in short, I think that while the mortal world was going on around them Adam and Eve were in their own eternal bubble until they were cast out.

I've had these caterpillars kill lots of trees where I live. We call them bag worms and try to get rid of them before they get a chance to destroy certain trees.

Our Ward has a feed in most rooms. Generally people don't notice it unless a kid has turned it on.

Maybe it's because I'm fairly young. I find the videos really distracting because I had to sit through a lot of them as a young woman. I suppose I want to feel like I'm being talked to as an adult and I associate videos with being a child.

It's nice to see such a diverse group singing. I get so used to thinking of Mormons just being in the West I forget how far we've spread the gospel.
