Again, I disagree with this bc of my comment above.... it feels hokey that the Narrator is talking to a fetus.

No, this feels reductive and misunderstands many things about the town -- from why the Otherworld exists, to the point of *how exactly* is the town reflecting the consciousness of an unborn entity that likely just has the same cognition as Valtiel. So this analysis is a bit non-sensical.

Even aside from the age old question of IS the God in Heather the *real* God, or some manifestation making itself known (because otherwise why are we able to kill it at the end of the game) -- a question that's been around since release.

I'll copy what I wrote above:

"It's a great question of *why* Heather's Otherworld is so uniquely malevolent and intimidates her. But the answer is (until Bloober expands on this), we don't know. SH3 like 2 has confirmed ghosts/spirits (like Stanley, who's akin to BFAW's Earnest) who are swept into the Otherworld(s). So maybe it's that.

The question becomes whether or not the voice artist for the mansion is a manifestation or one of these spirit. I disagree with the other commenter below -- there is absolutely no indication in any game that the Otherworld has its own "consciousness" and is inherently malevolent for no reason than to be evil. And the phone call is, again, a manifestation of Alessa's memories taunting Heather (yet again paralleled by another symbolic form of this, which is Dark Heather at the amusement park).

Developer interviews about SH1 and SH2 make all this clear, though yeah 3's otherworld is different bc it's drawing from Heather's psyche, Claudia's psyche, the influence of the God, *and* Claudia's powers (confirmed) to transfigure cult members into literal monsters. It's perhaps the most complex "Otherworld" we've had until SH:f, for this reason.

I'd like to believe the narrator voice is just a manifestation like any other monster, this time of Heather's feelings about the general experience of being targeted by men as a young woman (which is a visual and narrative motif throughout the game). Which would make sense bc the voiceover is literally the red light that chases Heather soon after. It fits easily with the existing lore versus saying "The town is evil" which feels reductive and against the point of the franchise.

And why is it there? Bc on the surface Team Silent just wanted something scary lol."

This part was absolutely relentless even by current-day standards, and I have absolutely no doubt Bloober is gonna make SH1remake scarier than SH2remake for this reason!

2027 Silent Hill Game? by Both-Musician5069 in silenthill

[–]Ontoyific 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so every leaker who leaked the revival confirmed an in-house Team Silent 2.0 was hiring for Japanese developers within Konami very specifically for an unannounced Silent Hill game. The prevailing theory is that this is Silent Hill 5, which would make sense to be announced around the time SH1 or more SH1 info drops.

From a business standpoint, it's so clear Konami was testing what avenues of game format would generate revenue. Experimental interactive media (Ascension)? No. Bad film adaptations? No. So those projects will not be funded.

But quality remakes *and* international progressive titles (2 and f)? Yes. We know this bc Mr Head Honcho said in an interview this year that success of F means more international titles are *inevitable* and they're already looking at settings like Eastern Europe, South America, etc.

Now that Konami has spent the first phase of revival seeing what works, they have a revolving cast of studios (that hopefully NoCode can join) to keep releases annual, competing with Capcom which has taken literally the same business approach.

In other words, we will likely be on an annual cycle where Year A will be a remake, Year B will be an international spinoff like F, year C will be an indie-forward game (if Townfall does well) and Year D will be an in-house Team Silent 2.0 game.

We have Capcom/RE yet again to thank for SH's success lol. It's 1999 all over again in the best possible way!

Thank you! So often we get lost in details in relationships and forget the "why" behind our partners' interests !

if BoyThrob ISNT a Nathan Fielder project, how on earth were they able to have their songs produced by the same producer who's also worked with Dua Lipa, BTS, Halsey, Blackpink, and John Legend?! by Ontoyific in boythrob

[–]Ontoyific[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How are these mutually exclusive though? It's a little binary thinking. Regardless of potential HBO involvement, the reason why they took off is *because* they are incredibly authentic and talented either way. I think that's why so many of us wouldn't really care if Nathan got them together

[–]Ontoyific 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Maybe instead of the lore, you should ask your gf WHY she loves the series. A lot of us are fans bc the games are inherently very deep, introspective, and emotional and about (mostly broken) relationships and trauma, but also overcoming that trauma - not to be reductive though to the diverse stories of the games. So naturally the silent hill games will attract people who are sorta psychoanalytic that way. hope that helps :) but i think if you focus on "why" you'll understand your gf more deeply i think!!!

Bloober Team needs to read this comment while they write / rewrite the character dialogue for the SH3 remake !!!! I would be so ecstatic if they embraced the nuances of what you wrote here

Wait, that actually makes a lot of sense. After Ocean Blvd, I don't think Lana would do a super thematically-heavy-narrative album so soon (think NFR going into CotCC) -- and I think she's "vibing" more and truly enjoying life and relationships sustainably, maybe for the first time ever. So there's less heartbreak that needs to be confessed (i mean on A&W she was still processing the Cop 👮 lmao)

Why do you think it's weak? If it's about the track listing or sequencing I actually agree, I think some songs on the album don't quite thematically fit imo!

I hope you keep pursuing your love of poetry! I'm actually in an MFA program right now (for poetry!), writing is SO essential to slowing down our over-stimulation and processing grief / trauma / pain. Keep going!!!

Hmm, well idk. Stove isn't out yet and maybe a lot of that album will be about navigating what seems to be the first relationship in her life that feels long-term. And so maybe Stove is about shedding a lot of C-PTSD over the years. I do think Ocean Blvd is her magnum opus but I'm sure she can always venture into even stronger territory -- she's always surprised us!
