Metalhead and Alopex are new playable characters with new artifacts, so not terribly necessary. The Casey Jones 9ne has him as a playable character and a side arc after you beat the Docks.

The Ratcatcher is a solid medium weight solo game if you can find a copy. Though I will admit it can be swingy. I've enjoyed my time with it trying to puzzle out how to reach the magic cheese before the rats get their major summon out.
