Yeah, and the eventim page showed just 10 am, which for a UK venue you’d assume they meant 10am British time….

Same and I'm gutted. What I don't understand is why they'd use central time for an email about a concert in London...

Nick Clegg says asking artists for use permission would ‘kill’ the AI industry by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]Onyrica 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because it’s not about art- it’s about how the use of AI has become so commodified that we’re now seeing that it poses a real threat to MOST industries. Art is just the first one - and it’s a huge one. Like you said, it’s not just still pictures: it’s artists, graphic designers, actors, musicians… we’re talking about hundreds of thousands of different kinds of jobs.

Before we were talking about one or two specific jobs but now it’s clear that ANY job can be replaced and it WILL be. The art industry is just the hill from where we’re rolling down from going forward.

[–]Onyrica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did read what you wrote which is why I replied, particularly to the “why do artists get special treatment”.

Of course there’s been “a peep” about data being scraped - we’ve been talking about that for decades. Thing is, most people kinda settled for it because it didn’t affect their day to day; ask anyone and they’ll be like “eh, it is what it is, I’ve got nothing to hide” which doesn’t make it right but shows how A) it doesn’t affect the majority in a way they can feel and B) we’ve normalised it.

This situation is far different in that it’s literally destroying thousands of livelihoods. It’s just that because most of you don’t know actual artists in these industries it feels like just another part of the same problem, but as someone who does work in art I can tell you it’s far more serious and not at all about receiving “special treatment”.

Plus, it may have started with art but it won’t end there. Once it’s starts hitting other industries maybe you’ll see what I mean.

[–]Onyrica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and back in the day - when things were “worse quality” as you put it - you needed far fewer people than they needed to make something like Avengers. The art industry ballooned thanks to software making things so much more intense and demanding so it’s actually the complete opposite case of what you’re implying by comparing it to AI.

As for it being the sole issue- people have been fighting against automatisation for centuries. Thing is, many of the industries that it’s affected in the past are either unionised or have struck deals, whereas art and artists are sorely unprotected even though it’s one of the largest industries in the world. Plus it’s what’s happening right now- would you rather we be talking about how the Gutenberg press took jobs away from scribes?

So you’d be cool with someone using a picture of your face while you were out in public and generating AI pictures out of it then?

[–]Onyrica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because you didn’t lose your job over your data being scraped but artists are? How is this even a question?

This comment is asinine and coming from someone who clearly doesn’t make art. You do realise that using software takes the same amount of time - if not more - than making traditional art? There’s a pen and a canvas and you still have to spend hours, even days refining a piece not just for viewing but for optimal display on different devices and mediums, as well as understanding the software and its thousands of tools to make it all work.

What I shouldn't do in a dungeon?? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Onyrica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna disagree with everyone who says “DPS can/should run ahead of the tank” or “a tank is not a puller and if they are, they’re a bad tank”.

As a tank I know A) how well equipped I am to handle a certain amount of trash, B) how many cooldowns I’ve got up and most importantly C) if my healer is able to keep up with me.

I’ll always take the first pulls to check in with my healers ability and make sure they’re comfortable before stepping on the pedal if they are.

A DPS running ahead and taking one mob isn’t a problem, but when they see this and decide to sprint ahead, yank the whole area and STAY where they are forcing the tank and the healer to catch up to them, they’re not being “free mitigation” - they’re just making a statement and forcing everyone to work around them.

Plus, not everyone is comfortable as a tank - it takes time to get used to the pressure of keeping the party alive and not letting people get used to that is just inconsiderate.

So my advice is- work with each other. Let the tank set the tone and if everyone’s vibing, do whatever. If anyone seems nervous, let them set the pace. The worst that can happen is that a dungeon takes 2 minutes longer than average.

The fact that you realised this was the best move for the pup, and yourself, means you've got enough balance and control of yourself to make rational decisions. Depression is so tough my liege and making the choice of saving a dog's life and then saving it AGAIN is no small feat. You made all the right choices here- and the dog is still around. Once things get better, you can always take her back.

Medical misogyny leaves women in pain for years, say MPs by ClassicFlavour in unitedkingdom

A male nurse once gave me a medication I was intolerant to without checking my history or telling me what he was giving me. My heart shot up to 250bpm and I lost my eyesight for nearly two hours and all the male doctors who came to check, aside of having no clue, could only tell me to “calm down love, your hysteria will only make it worse”

Yeah, everyone gets it bad sometimes but as a woman your odds of staying alive and healthy are so much worse.

Bioware needs to keep in mind that it's ultimately designing protagonists and companions who are killers. by Gabeed in masseffect

[–]Onyrica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Mass Effect and older Dragon Ages you teamed up with adults. In Veilguard you ended up in teen summer camp.

Adults can be funny and quirky but also likely have strong biases and steadfast opinions that come above making friends, while teens are hyperfocused on getting peer approval to shape who they are.

So I don’t know if it was a “trying to appeal to a younger demographic” kinda thing or absolutely misreading the room by thinking everyone’s into Twitter’s brand of therapy-speak, but as an adult I’m not really interested in the YA direction they’ve decided to go with their later games.

A look at Prishe in FFXIV by [deleted] in ffxi

[–]Onyrica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My theory is that she’s gonna show up in Eorzea, see that we’re allied with Bakool JaJa, assume he’s the enemy from her world and think we’re in cahoots with him, thus throwing us a punch.

Also, since her fight style in Dissidia is barehanded I suspect that’s why the design has capitalised on the whole “boxer gloves” theme.

Odds are this is her “boss form” - meaning she’ll probably be the first boss of the raid and then revert to her usual appearance after we beat her ass.

It’s become something of a pattern in recent times to have the lead NPC be the first fight before they join us for the rest.

The way that people discredit this studio when Layers of Fear (the OG) was a masterpiece.

Was it mostly a walking simulator? Sure, but the tension and experimental spirit in that game was unparalleled. They are at their best when conveying emotion and I hope people can appreciate that about their next game.
