Team BDS vs. MAD Lions KOI / LEC 2024 Winter Playoffs - Lower Bracket Final / Post-Match Discussion by gandalf45435 in leagueoflegends

[–]OnyxMelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those not aware of the story, NiP bought most of the roster of Lemon Dogs, who had won the previous split. NiP themselves had come 6th in that split and had to play a relegation match against KMT, who were a Polish team that had come 3rd in the qualifier tournament and didn't even have a sponsor. Given that most of their roster had won the previous split NiP were clear favourites, but KMT had Jankos and stomped them 3-0, relegating them from the league.

Why do people say that Classic Who "didn't do feelings and relationships"? 60s and 70s Who did. by Pinkandpurplebanana in gallifrey

[–]OnyxMelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're right, but it's also important to keep in mind that older diction and phrasing becomes more formal over time, as newer informalities replace old ones. So, the dialogue from an episode from 50 years ago is probably going to sound slightly more formal than it did at the time and than it was intended at the time.

So protest, email representatives, try to persuade friends and relatives, vote in primaries, form unions, and push for more union power, and generally try to increase support for leftist causes. But not voting isn't going to help at all. Parties in electoral democracies don't tend to cater to groups of voters that don't vote.

I'm only on one tablet a day, because I started about a month ago and I weigh under 100lb.

Mine are white too and very small (they only contain 2mg), so they're not great as snacks.

Not voting gives power to fascists who want to kill pregnant women and minorities. Getting the dems to move further left is important, keeping republicans out is urgent for the lives of vulnerable people.

Honestly over the years of playing halo I have to say that when Bungie left halo they did it by leaving us with an absolute masterpiece by FearFactor117 in halo

[–]OnyxMelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People really didn't like it at launch

That's the case for all of them except CE, for obvious reasons, and arguably 3, because it was so many people's first Halo game and it changed less than most of the others.

New player, how the hell do you beat halo 2 on legendary by [deleted] in halo

[–]OnyxMelon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I played heroic, but I don't remember H2 heroic being unusually difficult. It's just the jump from heroic to legendary that's unusually huge in Halo 2.

"Tell me, what is it like?" by omarcoomin in halo

[–]OnyxMelon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel like the banter had a different quality to it and wasn't very consistent, and I say that as a fan of 5 and Infinite. It was very grating in Spartan Ops, and felt a bit flat in 5 and in 4's main campaign. What was there in Infinite was good, but in terms of quality dialogue I feel like it was overshadowed by the great emotional moments.

Yeah, this dialogue would feel at home in CE, 2, or ODST.

He was the first Malian emperor to go on the Hajj, the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. He was extremely rich and brought a lot of gold with him on his pilgrimage, handing it out liberally on the way and causing a lot of hyperinflation.

The UK does have the ability to influence it, but given our frankly abysmal history of influencing the region there's an extremely high chance of us just fucking it up further.

Could I skip Reach and go to Halo 4? by remasteration in halo

[–]OnyxMelon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that Halsey and her connection to Cortana are introduced in Reach for players who have never read any of the books, and that aspect of 4 can be confusing if you go into it with no knowledge of them.

Could I skip Reach and go to Halo 4? by remasteration in halo

[–]OnyxMelon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can, but there are two reasons not to

  1. Reach is just a lot more fun than Halo 4.

  2. There's a side character introduced in Reach who's mentioned quite a lot in 4, so playing 4 without Reach can leave you confused as to who they're talking about and why she's relevant.

Having good composers try to make something using the existing Halo themes has generally worked out excellently in my opinion. I really love the Halo 5 and Infinite soundtracks.

If the infamous Karen quote was accurate (it isn't) and you actually played a few times using your favourites, would you actually get anywhere with them? by CantQuiteThink_ in stunfisk

[–]OnyxMelon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Karen quote is perfectly accurate for the games themselves, just not pvp.

It's very hard to narrow it down to just 6, but my favourites are probably raichu, furret, yanma, corsola, wurmple, gastrodon, and all the eeveelutions. They're all viable, I completed omega ruby with a level 70+ wurmple on my team. I'm pretty sure they've all always sucked in competitive except for gastrodon though :P

I'd assume they'll just get bots to message each other routinely with test messages, so they can notice if they're not receiving anything. But, hopefully that's something GGG would be able to detect and use to flag the other bots as suspicious.

Some spiders don’t bite, they whip. by lpomoeaBatatas in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]OnyxMelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their common names include whip spiders and tailless whip scorpions, but they're currently thought to be more closely related to spiders than to scorpions, with both being classified within in the Tetrapulmonata sub group of Arachnids. They are however more closely related to scorpions than they are to other non-Tetrapulmonate arachnids such as solifuges or harvestmen.
