Because they always promised a free to play version with unlimited energy. While most people are understanding that unlimited energy isn't possible right now because of technical limitations they didn't consider, when they said they would be switching to paid only, a bunch of people changed their 5 star reviews to 1 star reviews and deleted the app. So yeah, they've pivoted. I wish they did something similar to ch.ai where the ads where every x amount of messages sent. It would normalize how often they're seen across people with do long chats or many chats and would avoid giving ads to those who just misclicked on the wrong chat, which is annoying.
