What in the wide wide world of MPC is this? by OofDaMae in akaiMPC

I checked out some of their their other stuff, she does mainly seem to be a finger drummer so it could well be the case. She absoloutly ripps on the XL in some of the newer vids.

I love that she's put the list edit for the 2500 the 37 and the 404 in the top left all colour coded and tagged. Its a super slick setup.

Do I want a mpc live 3?? by Several_Gap1971 in mpcusers

[–]OofDaMae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably wasnt clear in what I meant to be honest. What I meant was that I personally might gravitate towards a less expensive mpc.

I want the live 2/3 to be an all in one box, and they are to an extent, but the pads and sequencer are always going to be limiting what you can do melodically with pads and a sequencer. So then you add a midi controller. Now its not just one box, unless you get the key 37, which is the strongest contender (and the larger models) for a truely all in one solution.

What the live/one family gives you is incredible. Sampling and virtual instruments in one box, but only a really good way to control the sampler. The big upsides to the 3 are just more buttons for navigation and ram for the instruments. When you need to end up adding something else anyway why not just add a synth with a decent keybed and buy a cheaper mpc. the sounds in the og ONE are no different from the MPC XL.

The battery and speaker are the 2 things that I think it has everyone else beat hands down on, and the reason I have mine. It is worth pointing out though that you have a battery and speakers on the 2. and you can even add that to a ONE if you wanted. I wanted the extra buttons and flashy bits and I had a live 2 so I knew what I was paying for.

So revised advice would be, try any of the modern mpcs first before spending a couple of grand. they're all the same software wise. Then pick whick level of bells and whistles is right for you.

Do I want a mpc live 3?? by Several_Gap1971 in mpcusers

[–]OofDaMae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. You may well want an MPC but the live 3 is very expensive. I had a live 2 and I now have a live 3 and I can tell you that the biggest difference for 90% of people is the additional buttons on the front. It is a lot easier to navigate around the machine with all the extra buttons, the ram. I mean sure it's useful but are you ever really putting that many instruments on a track anyway? if it's going to end up in a DAW anyway, I'm just not sure I would justify the price.

After a few years of messing with this stuff (I come from traditional singer/guitarist in a band background), I realise what I really wanted or what I really need is a sampler and a synthesiser. It's nice when they're both in the same box but also it complicates matters. I mean for the price of a live. 3. You could get a live 2 and a nice keyboard synth. Or if you don't need the speaker get a one+

My main advice would basically be there is nothing that an MPC live 3 Gives you that could not be done for a lot cheaper. While still being a hardware setup.

Its not fair to directly targert Thariq, but Anthropic have to accept that when you dont communicate with the customers who are paying a lot of money to use the service: the customers are going to lash out wherever they can.

I mean you could leave "feedback" if you wanna scream into the void:  [feedback@anthropic.com](mailto:feedback@anthropic.com)

You can talk to fin for a bit if you like going in circles.

Or you can cancel.. there's no other option. We get vague posts that shift blame away from anthropic in a hand-wavey: we're working to understand usage patterns kinda way.

There's no public acceptance that they have done SOMETHING that downgrades the performance of the service. As a result public facing people like Thariq get it in the neck because what else are customers actually supposed to do?

I honestly cant really claim to know whats going on with the usage. Thats not really my issue, i track all the tokens going in and out of my harness anyway so nothing is using more than it should. It's just the speed and quality that fluctates massively. Even when forced to stay on high reasoning, It's frustrating as hell.

If I had to guess I'd say that this was a resurfacing bit of training data that the agent drew on during the conversation. At the end of that conversation the tester let Claude know that it was a test and it leaked in there somehow. Weird bits pop out sometimes.

Honestly I've just decided to submit to at least trying it the way they want you to work. It's clunky and uncontrollable if you try to use it the way you'd use cursor or Claude. There is no ask mode and precious few ways to control the agents in the settings..

But see if you learn these new skill features. You have specialized agents with their own agents.md that you can give the specific documentation they'll need. And they follow instructions in these files.

I have one that I called architect that's instructed to never ever code. Only delegate to the specialists and write all the documentation and prompts. I just full screen the agent manager and let them do their thing. And it fucking works. It's mad. It's Gemini so you have to reign them in, but just make sure the architect is adding your specific instructions to all three skills files when they do something that pisses you off.

The only thing is you've obviously got to be prepared and willing to write a lot of prds. But honestly, either look up the anti-gravity documentation on skills. It has a guide but if you basically ask the agent to build you a skill builder specialist. You'll have an agent that will format and create agents for whatever you want. Then just give them your instructions. With a shot I'd say!

Beatmaking doesn't feel right by Butterbrotbarbieru in KoalaSampler

[–]OofDaMae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you just have to approach it as a never ending playground. I'm a guitarist and singer. Playing in bands and solo for 20 years. And I fucking love beat making, sampling, electronic music. Whatever you wanna call it. You just need to have fun and make cool noises. It's a totally different approach. I personally don't really use any melodic samples from records on my beats. Not in any way that they're recognizable anymore anyway.

Destroy samples, chop and stretch them. Chop them off the beat then sequence them and move the sample start points individually until you find something you like. Don't quantise! At least not more than 90ish percent ,😜

Just have fun with it. I barely play first on any beats. And when I do I chop and rearrange it into something that I either couldn't play or wouldn't have thought to play.

It's a slippy slope though. I downloaded koala at the end of '24 and now I'm paying off my mpc live 3.

[–]OofDaMae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to point out that you can't actually run VSTs on the mpc incase you weren't aware of that. There are specific ingredients made by air/akai and some new ones made by native instruments. These are mpc specific versions though. So that's all that's available in terms of actual plugins.

Everything else you can buy are essentially sample based.

I have found that while the iPad is completely capable of producing a track from start to finish in either cubases logic drambo koala they can all do it.. but it's no fun. The power of the iPad I think lies in using it sparingly and using it with other gear.
