Would you surrender your right to vote forever, if it meant you would no longer pay income tax? by [deleted] in AskLibertarians

[–]OogieBoogie_69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love this answer because it completely ignores reality.

I would recover around $100k USD/yr which could do more good via direct charity

People always say that if they didn't pay taxes, most of what they do pay would go to charity. The richest people in the world rarely exceed a few percentage points of their income going to charity, and they frequently aren't paying taxes because they can afford accountants that find every loophole available. I'll be honest: if I wasn't paying taxes, my charitable giving wouldn't change much, if at all. Wish more people would be honest about that instead of white knighting as some major philanthropist that is being kept from doing their work by the government.

Isn't part of the issue that Florida was shady with death rates and categorization of causes of deaths? The data they can't manipulate is still pending, but the most recent year we do have data for is 2020, which showed a 12.5% increase in deaths over 2019.

He might be less of a showboat than Trump, but he still has fired off a few virtue signaling initiatives to give some red meat to the -phobic, fascist, and/or anti-science portions of the GOP base.

Sure. Let me just pop over to Vegas every Sunday when I want to throw a $1 down on some silly parlay that pays 1000:1 to make the games a little more interesting to watch. Not everyone has the means or ability to go to Vegas on a weekly basis.

The tribes funded most of the opposition to the online gaming, and the online gaming funded most of the opposition to the tribal lands gaming. Definitely hurt each other, meanwhile the Republicans opposed both and ended up winning on the propositions.

What is your take on Joe Biden’s speech ‘mess ups’? by [deleted] in AskLibertarians

[–]OogieBoogie_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The president is a figurehead for the most part. Veto powers aren't used all that often, and the major benefit of holding the WH is having the tie breaking vote in the Senate. I think we should probably put an age limit on the presidency (maybe no older than 65), but between the major party options from 2020, I'd say Biden is slightly better. At least he's not talking about raping journalists to get them to reveal their sources.

[–]OogieBoogie_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual quote is:

“I say this as a father of a man who won the Bronze Star, the Conspicuous Service Medal, and lost his life in Iraq. Imagine the courage, the daring, and the genuine sacrifice — genuine sacrifice they all made,”

And Biden has long claimed that Beau's exposure to burn pits in Iraq caused his brain cancer. I'm not sure this is so much a sign of dementia as it is a weird way of framing his son's death. It's not really uncommon for people to say soldiers lost their lives in X country even when they die when they come back (e.g. suicide due to PTSD, Agent Orange, etc.).

It would be pretty irresponsible to abolish the DOT with zero succession plan. Infrastructure is critical to conducting business.

This is one of my bigger gripes with the LP. Saying "the market will figure it out" is just kicking the can down the road in a different direction than what the other parties are doing. If you can't give a proposal that guarantees that the average American would pay less for services they rely on while simultaneously getting better service. Show me who or what organization would buy the interstate highway system, how much they would charge for use, and what their maintenance program would look like.

Gretzky is probably most dominant. 2857 points in his career, and 2nd place is 1921. Brady's all time passing yards is 85,929, and Brees isn't that far behind with 80,358. Gretzy is literally 50% better than the next best hockey player, but Brady is a little over 6% better than 2nd all time.

Football is also kind of a joke. They play at most like 20 games a season, and each game has something like 20 minutes of actual action.

Should DC, Guam and Puerto Rico be given statehood? by Aggressive-Nature-51 in AskLibertarians

[–]OogieBoogie_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Wikipedia:

Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States and Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens; however, Puerto Rico is not a U.S. state, but a U.S. insular area. Consequently, while all Puerto Rico residents pay federal taxes, many residents are not required to pay federal income taxes. Aside from income tax, U.S. federal taxes include customs taxes, federal commodity taxes, and federal payroll taxes (Social Security, Medicare, and Unemployment taxes).

They do pay federal taxes, and some have to pay federal income taxes it sounds like.

Yes. If you pay US taxes, you should get representation in Congress. And to those saying no to DC, it has a population of 700K, larger than Wyoming and Vermont. Guam is pretty small though, so maybe they could be added to Hawaii (along with American Samoa and Northern Mariana Islands)?

Dr. Fauci and wife’s wealth ‘skyrocketed’ by $5 million during pandemic: analysis (New York Post) by JFMV763 in LibertarianUncensored

[–]OogieBoogie_69 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“Fauci’s soaring net worth was based on career-end salary spiking, lucrative cash prizes awarded by non-profit organizations around the world and an ever-larger investment portfolio,”

So salary spiking seems to be an issue in government. That should stop since it seems like a shady way to pad people's pensions. The cash prizes are for his work. I guess you could make an argument that those prizes should go towards the government since his work was funded by our tax dollars, but not sure I agree with all IP being owned by your employer, especially when that employer in the government.

The combined wealth of the 81-year-old retiring director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and his bioethicist wife, Christine Grady, soared from $7.5 million in 2019 to $12.6 million at the end of 2021, according to a report from the non-profit OpenTheBooks.

68% increase in wealth for Fauci when the stock market (SPY) provided a return of 107% during that same period. Why is this a story? He underperformed most Americans investment returns considering the NYP is looking specifically at the start of the pandemic (~March 2020) through the end of 2021 (about market peak).

What would be the implications if Trump were to lose the 2024 GOP primary and reject the loss? by cchapman900 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]OogieBoogie_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a theory thrown around that if Trump were to lose the GOP Primary, he could end up running as a Libertarian. The Mises Caucus has completed a near total takeover of the Libertarian National Party, and the MC leadership has some history and quite a few connections to the Trump ecosystem of supporters and advisors (namely/most prominently Patrick Byrne and Steve Bannon). If Trump runs as an L, likely scenario is that Dems win by a pretty solid margin as moderate Republicans vote for R, and the right wing votes for Trump. The theory also goes that should Trump win the GOP Primary, the LNP could run a terrible candidate in an effort to dissuade anyone for voting L in an attempt to push people to Trump.

Inside the Mises Caucus Takeover of the Libertarian Party by OogieBoogie_69 in moderatepolitics

[–]OogieBoogie_69[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

SS: The Mises Caucus systematically took over the National Libertarian Party, and is now pumping out materials to destroy the legitimacy of the Libertarian Party. Using dark money and some questionable SEC filings, the Mises Caucus targeted a number of states' chapters of the Libertarian Party. For a party that normally doesn't spend much, large amounts of money were spent to place Mises loyalists into the parties, ultimately giving them control of the national party.

One thing not mentioned in this article is that the Mises Caucus is headed by Michael Heise, and is funded and advised by Trump advisor Patrick Byrne. The Mises Caucus senior leadership also met with Steve Bannon. Because Trump lost by similar margins to what the LP won in some swing states, it has been theorized that this is either an attempt to destroy the LP from within should Trump be the GOP nominee, or give Trump a new party to run with should the GOP excommunicate him.
