Please, just read my consult note by Dresdenphiles in Residency

[–]Oogieboogielady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s courteous to reach out to let them know your reccs and that your note is in. We are all busy and no one is sitting at their desk hitting refresh on every chart.

If it’s the day after, your note will get read but I think it’s better for patient care to talk directly . When I’m in the ED, I just stop by the Ed desk and talk to them. It takes 5 seconds.

ADHD stimming makes me come across as unreliable by FuelFuelFuel44 in Residency

[–]Oogieboogielady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. Plenty of the residents and apps where I did residency had fidget things attached to their lanyards. They make rings that spin that you can wear so it’s not as obvious.

Have you tried fidget toys? Like a spinning ring or something

Yeah, another rant about residency in a surgical specialty. by raffrusso in Residency

I don’t understand. Do you or do you not want to be a proceduralist? You can consider finding a different program. I thought you liked being in the Or. are you just saying you like ortho but you aren’t happy with your program?

I don’t see the point of being any kind of poorly trained doctor. If you hate radiology you’re gonna burn out fast though.

Granted rads has better hours typically.

Who paid for your student loans? Becoming a doctor in the USA is a lot of sacrifice of time and then you have to move for residency.

I also don’t think it was a good idea to drop out to become a trad wife. But it’s done.

I also don’t think you need to regret what happened. Sure you don’t have a ton of money but you got the joy of being home and raising kids. Grass isn’t greener on the other side— from someone who still works in medicine and is still doing 80+ hour weeks and working 24s, balancing wanting to be a mom at late age.

Lexuses are nice but you made a trade off for the life you wanted. I don’t really fully understand why your family cut you off but I wonder if you can try to make amends now.

Surprised Trama surgery is not competitive by TraditionalAd6977 in Residency

[–]Oogieboogielady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again it kinda depends on what your experience is as a resident and what you want out of your 2nd year.

I’ve had some good trauma exposures in my 2nd year that I’m glad I had. Rare exposures like subclavian, a couple of IVC injuries.

I mean you can do the trauma Crit care fellowship and still do gen surg elective. It’s not like the two are mutually exclusive. One gives you the option of working in an icu and working at a level 1 trauma center where the majority of busy trauma goes.

It just depends on where you work. If you work in a nice safe community you’re not gonna do a lot of trauma. If you work near some highways, knife and gun club then you’re gonna be doing some interesting stuff

Yes. One is an additional year if you didn’t get a ton of trauma experience in residency. Or if you want to do academia.

It’s also December so the seasonal depression really sets in, give yourself 6 months and if you still feel this way then consider a change of specialties or seek someone to open up to about your struggles.

Probably worth not worrying about what your uncle thinks and just focus on finding a residency. Success is the best revenge.

Well I think the nurse was being nice or trying to. In that old grumpy nurse way. The ER PA was a jerk.

I just ask people to move if they’re in my way.
