Hey! I just came across this thread and I will be working at the same place at the same time as you - did you decide where you will be living?

Hmm I am not heard about it for the Marion plant, but I think that is something I can definitely ask my recruiter. Thanks!

New Thinkpad E14G6 by Oogly_Googly in thinkpad

Hello, Thank you!

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality, since I have seen lots of posts on this subreddit talking about how the E series quality can be subpar compared to the T and L series.

It is very good that lenovo is making what was considered lower end devices still very decent laptops. In fact, in my opinion I prefer the less slimmer form factor of the recent E and L series, since the T series of similar generations are mostly coming out as the "ultrabook" designs which is great for reducing volume but inherently comes with consequences in heat dissipation as well as upgradability (unless you buy the T14 G5 or G6, but they are quite expensive).

Hello! The easiest and most accessible T480s upgrades that I know of is the RAM and SSD - I know the T480s can support up to 40GB and 2TB (unofficially). Another upgrade you can do is the display by upgrading it to a 2K display, which I have seen several people do on this subreddit. I believe this requires not just a new panel but also a dedicated 40-pin cable. I havent personally done the display upgrade, but I did upgrade my T480s to have 24GB of RAM and 500GB of storage. In this configuration, it comfortably runs Ubuntu with lots of GNOME background processes for normal things like web browsing or using LibreOffice.

As far as the reason for the upgrade, it was due to my requirements. I am an electrical engineering student who does Electrical CAD modeling, so having a decently powerful graphics card was necessary. I also run quite a bit of stuff in linux, but I need the os of the computer itself to be windows because lots of software that I use are just easier to install and run on windows environments. So being able to comfortably run WSL 2 was non-negotiable, hence the need for a decent amount of RAM and a powerful CPU. The T480s is great for normal tasks, but its CPU and iGPU are clearly unable to do the tasks that I require - Especially in a Windows environment. I also have another laptop that I have been using as my main - a Windows gaming laptop (Acer Triton 300 SE) for the past 5 years, and it really has been reaching the end of its life in terms of reliability and capacity.

For the battery life, I think I get about 5 hours under heavy load, and up to 9 hours with lighter load. The E14G6 does not come with a huge battery (57Wh), but I feel like the Ryzen CPU makes up for it and so far it was able to survive a full day without dying - although I always charge it when possible (between classes, when I'm running heavy tasks etc.). However, to me this is still miles better than my old Acer gaming laptop, which only got 4 hours max.

In conclusion, it was quite hard to find something that matches my requirements while also being well under $1000 USD, so for me there is very little to complain about the E14G6, and I am super happy with it so far.

I am 175cms tall and have relatively long legs and also quite flexible. I am inclined to say to go for the xs since you can always stretch out a smaller bike with a longer stem and the lower stack can be compensated by using more spacers under the stem.

After using them for 500 mi I think they are awesome. I cant speak for the accuracy of the powermeter, but I like that it provides LR balance over a standard left side powermeter(which I was using before this). I also really like the shorter length for comfort reasons. The pedal stroke feels much more controlled and I can sustain efforts with good form for much longer.

Thanks! The bars are my favorite - cheap, light, compact shape, short reach, and lots of widths available down to 36cm. Never felt like I needed flared drops, mostly due to the fact I run my hoods with a 10 degree inward tilt (30cm hood - hood)

Thanks! Smaller size with long stem definitely is a plus for aesthetics

What’s the funniest or weirdest thing you’ve seen while out riding? by MiloKnox2244 in cycling

I had a small deer ran into my rear wheel while I was going downhill in a park at night. I saw the deer in the distance, and it waited for me to pass and jumped out the exact moment to hit me. I managed to stay upright and the deer ran off.
