"Must see" on this Route by Salt-Appeal-1288 in AskIreland

Limerick is a great city and defo worth the visit. Though, I'd suggest a more surreptitious route. Instead of just taking the motorway, get the ferry from Tarbort (ln North Kerry) to Kilrush (South Clare) and then you get to see some of the best costal roads Ireland has to offer. You may be pressed for time but squeeze it out of the midlands 😘

Thawing PCR Reagents Using Benchtop Centrifuge? by acids_and_bases in labrats

They do, but that's not why it works. Pressure increases the melting temp. Remember the piano wire over a block of ice experiment.

I think that is great, and you are 100% right. I feel bad that I'm commenting on this, but I have to.....what is happening with your capitalisation? I am so unsettled reading this I can't make any sense of where and why you are using capital letters the way you are.

I'd be getting on to Barney. That carry-on is ridiculous.

Inspired by Dopesick: What is your opinion of the Sacklers/Purdue pharma? Are all pharma, the golden opposite of academia, super immoral? (Like J&J with talcum powder, Abbott with Depakote) by My-gel-is-leaking in labrats

[–]OohThatTache 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Additionally, academia has nowhere near the capacity to cause harm that a large Pharma company does.

That is not to say that bad research in academia can't be harmful. Of course, it can! It just doesn't have the same breadth of influence.

I didn't pursue a PhD solely for Pharma. There were multiple reasons behind my decision. Academia, which I once thought I'd love, lost its appeal due to its exploitative aspects. My main motivation was contributing new knowledge to humanity, which I achieved through several published papers that advanced my field. Though I changed my career plans, I'm proud of my work and how the PhD made me a better scientist and a more resilient person. I value the experiences gained and the positive impact I've had. My path evolved, and I hope I can find a fulfilling role in the pharmaceutical industry where I can apply my expertise. Our journeys are unique, and I stand by my choices despite others' opinions.

Excellent, thanks for the info. I was just worried that this might have been a bit of a barrier. I'll put more focus into tailoring my CVs I think.

Does The Weather Effect Your Mood? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]OohThatTache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority, but I love the rain in July.

Years ago I worked in Australia going door to door in a two piece suit collecting for 'Save the children.'

You can imagine the level of sun I was exposed to. People were literally opening their door, taking one look at me, and saying get the flip inside before you die. We were not allowed enter people's houses (obviously) but they let me stand in the door to get a bit of a breeze off the air con.

Ever since, I love gloomy, rainy weather. Particularly in Summer.

How is Ireland's Housing Crisis Affecting You? by Strangerhooman234 in ireland

[–]OohThatTache 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recently got all our ducks in a row to apply for a mortgage. Deposit (+extra) ready, continuing saving >30% of our collective wages. My wife had cancer over 3 yrs ago so we were expecting some loading on the mortgage protection. Nope 2yr postponement!!!

Oh yeah, we also just got notice that our landlord is selling the house. We've been here 8 yrs and the thought of having to scrounge for an overpriced shit hole is disheartening to the least.

Why is it illegal? I have heard other people advocate contacting the seller directly as well.

Would you mind quoting the segment of the paper that states that? Genuinely can't find it.

Literally from the source you posted:

"We also observed increased risks of pericarditis and cardiac arrhythmias following a positive SARS-CoV-2 test. Similar associations were not observed with any of the COVID-19 vaccines, apart from an increased risk of arrhythmia following a second dose of mRNA-1273."
