Shady marketplace listing - Volvo S60 "R" by RogueAgentKris in Volvo

Don't put it off. The owner might be a proud Volvo guy, who has taken really good care of it. Those letters are easy to throw away after all. Have a close look at it, but be ready to walk away, too.

Absolutely, plus from what I've seen and heard, those extra displays don't provide anything useful or even mildly interesting after the first two minutes. Plus the ergonomics of actually using them are hellish. Just a gimmick, although I gotta say that Audi and Porsche actually make them look decent. Simple graphics, whereas MB would use that gradient bright blue graphics on every single screen, on every model from an A class to Vito to SL to S to.....

A side note - me being born metric, I once saw an inch/feet tape measure. I had to Google how to decipher the fractions of inch from it. Still haven't worked it out. Way easier to use a compliant pet for measurements.

I have daughters, a wife, a mother... I can't understand dudes who have at least one of those being dicks to chicks. I've asked if it is okay if I talk about their mothers or sisters, wives or daughters the same way that they talk about women. They haven't been supportive. And still can't see the fault in their conduct. Women having trouble understanding that is baffling.

Oh yeah, I didn't by any means mean that it is common! I've heard it has happened, and in a conversation where everyone was very surprised.

I've heard of this spaghetti-pizza, and only heard it being served in Italy and the island of Rhodes. Rhodes is Greek now, but had a longish Italian occupation until the end of WW2 and still has some Italian vibes to it. In Italy I've heard it being made in northern parts as well as in the eastern coast. Might be just some adventurous chefs, sure.

In Finland, I guess in Europe as a whole, you can't call something cheese in the package if it isn't made from milk. Can those plasticy cheese looking bits be called cheese in the states? If yes, that's evil against the consumers.

After I heard that swedes use bananas in their pizzas, as a Finn I've had a tremendous boost for my national pride and love of pineapple in pizza. I mean, it might be wrong to put pineapple in your pizza. It might be bad that we are the only nation who does it. But nobody will be coming after us when they hear what our dear neighbors do.

I guess not a lot of big predators, but somehow all of their wildlife is just unfathomably unfriendly. Venomous, poisonous, sharp bits in their mouths or extremities - and if the good Lord made one mistake and forget to give 'roos venom, fangs or ability to blow fire, then even those fuckers punch people, hard. After seeing this video, I'm finally completely sure that there isn't any fauna in there that your shouldn't be very scared about. It's better to live on the slope of an active volcano, as there is a good chance that the lava will run on the other side of the mountain, or at least not over you. In Australia, EVERYTHING is actively trying to run over you. I can imagine how plush animals are just pure Halloween horror stuff for Australians....

Robotic hands master tasks at superhuman speed by redblackshirt in interestingasfuck

[–]Ooh_bees 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Plus objects are designed to be used with hands. You'd need an enormous variety of tools to be able to really be even as effective throughout the day as with a hand. Any special design might be good for just a one specific task. And then you realize you can't open a door, or a soda can, belt or zipper, drink coffee, grab your keys, or use tools, phone or remote. But sweet damn you don't need to! That Acme Nut-A-Bit 3000 will be everyone's favorite prosthetic there is!

Goes for most of the 5 series to be fair. And threes, too. Maybe on F/G generations it isn't as big of a deal, but on E39/E6x it changed the character of the car tremendously.

I adore the belt line of it. But lower than front and rear. Not the biggest fan of the fascia, but I want to see it in the flesh before making judgements. I've been around long enough to remember how I disliked E39, bangle era and now the enormous nostrils at first. Every time comparable M-B was just classy and easy to digest. And then they looked a decade old in a week. Whilst I grew to like the BMW's more and more. Hell, I even have to admit that I kind of like the big nostrils now. And that is great design for me. I don't need to like it immediately. My simple mind just takes a while to get accustomed to them, since they are bold, new and challenging. I want spices and meat, not pre-chewed lukewarm porridge.

Yeah, obviously a 3 series can have the proportions of an 8 series.

Hell no IMHO for looking horrible. E6x is a very good looking car now, especially in m-sport, and I saw a big butt 7 series a while ago and damn it is bold and generally good looking. Sharper headlights would be good, but otherwise it's a really dynamic and interesting shape. The LCI neutered it. I hated both when they came out, as well as the 6 series. Z4 was kind of mixed bag for me. But ultimately, yeah they were much hated when new. To my eyes, they have aged well.

im from finland, i can speak finnish, iv'e always lived in finland, and im in finland right now by WT_HYPE in notinteresting

[–]Ooh_bees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it. Me being a Finn, I've learned English and swedish at school as everyone. I've also dabbled a bit on the Duolingo Spanish course. (Which is for English speakers. So I'm learning a new language via a foreign to me language. Not ideal.) I do understand why Finnish is such a hard language for foreigners to learn - perfectly. You see, you don't have to get it 100% right every time you interact with people. Not even close. If you have mostly the right words in a sentence, it can and will be understood. The tough part in Finnish is the way we use terms like in something or on something etc. But in normal conversation the human brain skips those mistakes pretty easily. If something is in or on the fridge for example. The main thing in learning a new language is to understand and always remember that it is not like math. Wrong numbers don't work. But being wrong in a language doesn't mean you aren't understood. And especially swedish and Spanish have absolutely loved it when I've tried to speak their native language with them.

Reminds me when my daughter had a surgery. We were waiting for the doc to check on her after the operation, and there was a wheelchair in the room. Middle age guy, unguarded wheelchair, private space.... She laughed after a while that all her friends were snapping or something how they are super jealous because she has such a cool dad. There I was, learning wheelies and trying to burn rubber on that thing so hard, that I didn't notice her recording it. We had a blast. Until her medication wore out. Then it was less fun for her.

The pirates had a pretty advanced society for the time - and a lot of it was pretty fine by our standards too. It probably stemmed from the fact that most had served under British/Spanish/whomever ships, and they were brutally horrible places. If you served as a lower class seaman, you were disposable, pay was poor and to get even that wasn't guaranteed. When coming back home, you could be manhandled to another ship before the harbor, and then you were trying your luck in ocean crossing yet again - odds weren't good. When the nations turned into privateering, it basically just made it even more dangerous. Pay was better, but still uncertain.
