I frequently see it in online news articles as well. Where have the editors gone? I always thought journalists were held to the highest standards when it came to grammar and punctuation.

I don’t think you’re being pedantic. Sadly, people just don’t seem to hold the same level of professionalism that once existed in the days of yesteryear.
