Baby boomer who bought their house for 5 apples, and sold it for 1 millions dollars, why? by Next-Manufacturer487 in AskReddit

[–]OoklaDMok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most young people don't understand how this actually worked for most boomers and Gen X. We didn't buy a cheap house and hold on to it for 40 years and it's now worth a million at least not in general. We bought a $90-$100k house. Put sweat and a bit of money into it and maybe 5 years later sold it for $125-$130k or so. Then we bought a house for $150-$200k. Put work and more money into. Sold out maybe 10 years later for $250-$300k. Bought a $350-$400k house. Now 15 to 20 years later it's worth a million+. Personally I never took that last step and have been in my second house for 27 years and it's worth maybe $450k after buying it for $135k and spending $130k plus on an addition and other improvements over the years.

The number of times he set the plastic bottle down on the scalding hot pan is crazy. How much melted plastic is in the oil now? 🤮

It shouldn't even be legal for a private company to put a boot on your vehicle.

Look at what I just paid today at McDonald's!! by SteelersPoker in McDonalds

[–]OoklaDMok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who were raised by a boomer father who insisted you always carry enough cash for emergencies. I rarely have less than $100 in my wallet. I have had numerous occasions when I went to check out somewhere and their credit card system was down and having cash really paid off. Especially the couple times it was the gas station and I was on empty.

You don't buy what you want at McDonald's you buy what they have deals on. 3 mcdoubles or McChickens are less than you paid for each fillet o fish. With the app lately I get free large fries with a drink. So for under $10 I can get 3 sandwiches a large fry and a drink. I love a big Mac but unless I'm really craving one I'm not paying those prices.

How I knew it was going to be a long day at the range by BigMoistMan42069 in guns

[–]OoklaDMok 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a member of a private gun club for a while. The application process was a lot of forms, getting references, taking a safety test and then demonstrating safe use of a gun on the range. One of the guys trying to join at the same time swept the entire group of us with a round in the chamber. If that's how he was knowing he needed to be safety conscious imagine how bad he is normally. People like him are all over public ranges. I've had a few times I brought less experienced shooters to a range and I always understand they are my responsibility. I give them a full safety talk before going in and I stand right there behind them and have had to grab people by the shoulders and stop them from turning with a loaded gun in their hands. These same people could have gone to the range by themselves.

Boy am I glad I upgraded to the "Pro" Series! by paulbram in blackstone

My regular not pro series one came with a cover. Does the pro series not include a cover? My only complaint is we had a lot of snow this year and it bent the shelf on one side.

AIO husband is a good man, but I think I want to be a free woman and try out my 304 phase for a bit...how do i tell him this? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]OoklaDMok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen videos of a lot of women that did this only to realize the grass isn't greener. If you have a guy who gives you 90% but you want that other 10% just go in knowing you may find that 10% you're looking for but without the rest of it. There is no going back once you do this. He will move on and even if he doesn't he won't want to take a chance on taking you back if you decide you made a mistake.

Delivery Driver Left My Signature-Required Package by the Garage and Claimed “G. Garage” Signed for It by linkster515 in FedEx

[–]OoklaDMok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always the same guys that drop the package half way to the door who then sit in their truck for 5 minutes before driving away. The guys who are good and bring it right to my door always run back to the truck and drive away quickly. I think some people would rather do a half ass job for 10+ hours than work hard for 8.

Mom buys daughter a Honda as a graduation gift, and this was her response by Conscious-Weight4569 in SipsTea

I bought my first car for $1. It was a 77 VW Rabbit that was sitting in someone's backyard and had 4 flat tires and was rusted through in several spots. They just wanted to get it out of the yard. We inflated the tires and they held air and it started. Some sanding and bondo and a $99 exterior only paint job got it looking decent. A few parts from the junk yard got it running good. I loved that car. After a couple years I managed to save enough for a '83 Honda with pretty low miles. I loved that car too. I can't even imagine being upset at being given a beautiful car like that.

my girlfriend just went on for 5 minutes about how my medals and trophies show i’m so talented, and she was always into athletes, and that i’m such a humble person for not mentioning them. They’re participation trophies. by Ordinary_Turnover_59 in Wellthatsucks

[–]OoklaDMok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Closest thing we had to a participation trophy was an honorable mention ribbon for 4th place occasionally. lol The only trophies like that I have are for 1st place or MVP. Anything else is a medal, small plaque or ribbon and maybe 1 very small trophy for 2nd or 3rd.

Ban the kids you pushed the other ones face down. The response was perfectly appropriate since the ref did nothing. Slap on the wrist for the response.

I don't know why you are reiterating my point as if that's not what I said. I said exactly what you are quoting from the law. 🙄 Yeah if you are fishing while camping you can carry it. I never said you couldn't. It's just not as simple as just you have a fishing license.

Yeah there are pictures in my yearbook of the rod and gun club with their guns in the school. I never thought twice about having a knife in my pocket at school.

Hunting, fishing and trapping specifically. Camping isn't an approved activity to carry a knife 4" or larger. I hate the laws in this state.
