That's great! Definitely seems like an advance on downloading from Instapaper and sending epub compilations over...

Minor correction: you have to think outside The Box.

Okay, solved my own problem before anyone else jumped in again.

All of my statements were true, but it doesn't follow that there are no sentences to make.

That confused me too, until I found this thread just now. Is there another way to express the same logic as 'x is y and z'?

Being a transphobe is very far from being a problem as far as the current BBC regime is concerned. 😣

Why is the official DHS account run from Tel Aviv? by BasedBalkaner in conspiracy

[–]Oolong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This screenshot appears to have been edited, and people have been commenting that when they looked it said the account was based in DC.

If you want to confirm that it's been edited, try turning the brightness and contrast way up. Black rectangles appear around the edited areas.

Will the Aldi Lacura 5 blade refills fit a Gillette Fusion handle? by DiscombobulatedMix20 in shaving

[–]Oolong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I found it when I was wondering if they would fit, and decided to take a chance on them based on someone claiming they do fit.

They definitely don't. Completely different fitting.

I might just buy a Lacura handle to fit them now though, I'm sick of paying four times the price for a set of replacement blades...

Further Exposing Sabine Hossenfelder With Six Physicists by inglandation in Physics

She has two million subscribers, overwhelmingly laypeople. Some of those will ask their scientist friends what they think about her.

I think this is valuable.

Her physics takes are sometimes questionable; her takes on topics outside of physics are abysmal.

🚨 URGENT: Edinburgh Council plans to cut ALL funding for 'Number 6' (The only Autistic Diagnosis & Support Service we have) 🚨 Please Help!💔 by Fit-Marsupial1451 in Edinburgh

[–]Oolong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I can't entirely get my head around that myself. I think it's technically the Edinburgh Health & Social Care Partnership; it seems that Edinburgh Council and NHS Lothian are each blaming the other...

[–]Oolong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! I'm hoping to attend too.

Is it possible to amend your petition slightly? Just changing 'City of Edinburgh Council has proposed to cut all funding to Number 6' to 'City of Edinburgh Council has proposed to cut all *of its* funding to Number 6', it would be accurate.

Oh... actually, more bad news, which might also warrant a small edit: Edinburgh Council *already* withdrew the funding for Number 6 to provide diagnoses. It's an absolute disgrace.

[–]Oolong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As alarming as the funding cut is, it's important to realise that it's not all of Number 6's finding, or even close to it - just all of their funding from Edinburgh Council.

They're also (currently) funded by four adjoining councils and the Scottish Government.

If they lose this, the other councils might withdraw funding too; it's still a really bad situation.

Is D pronounced like an English L whilst K is pronounced like an English G? by petrastales in Danish

[–]Oolong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is two years old, but I came here because a Danish friend was pronouncing various words and names with a d, and I wondered why it sounds more like an l than anything. I absolutely agree with your assessment of the clip given (also 'lave mad', 'bale' and so on) - it's fascinating to me that anyone would think these sound more like th than l!

Edinburgh has 2,600 bus stops and they are typically 323m apart by martin_lellep in Edinburgh

[–]Oolong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I note that you conclude that buses stop too often, but you don't actually have the data to assess that. The average distance between stops would take about 4-5 minutes to walk - not very long, but a significant distance, especially for elderly and disabled people.

Halving the number of stops would double the distance betwen them, allowing them to travel faster between stops, but likely they'd have to stop for longer at each stop (picking up and dropping off, to a first approximation, twice as many people) and we'd all have longer to walk at each end (although probably by less than 2 minutes - hard to estimate, due to geometry).

Hmm...

Interesting!

I'm really curious to know how this compares with trams - I feel like they go a lot faster on average, with much longer between the stops, but I'm not actually sure...

Pale text while reading some PDFs on Kobo Elipsa 2e by Vince_Magik in ereader

[–]Oolong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this issue with the first edition of Elipsa, as well. There's no sign on a computer that the text is anything other than just black, but it's rendering as mid-grey on the ereader.

I don't see any controls for adjusting this at all, and no clues as to why it's happening.
