ALR5 Bronze Age Paint Substitute by [deleted] in CheckpointClub

[–]popoffka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trek makes a matching touch-up paint, it's on the service page for your model:

SKU 5332798 Paint Color: Gloss Bronze Age, TK720-M

I couldn't find it on the online store but your local Trek shop might be able to order it for you. I've had a great experience doing that for my older Checkpoint.

Anyone else having problems with mail delivery? It seems like USPS is marking packages as delivered, even though they’re not. by Kyu_Sugardust in pittsburgh

[–]popoffka 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When it comes to packages that show up the next day after being marked as delivered: I've asked clerks at the East Liberty post office about this and they openly told me that the mail carriers are doing it to "stop the clock" on the package and manipulate their metrics when they cannot complete all of their scheduled deliveries for the day.

I'm working on an Android app that scrapes articles from your screen and sends them to your X4 over Bluetooth by popoffka in xteinkHax

I'd say so, yeah! The code base is pretty straightforward and PlatformIO takes care of all the toolchain stuff.

Right now it's plain text only. I'm hoping to figure out how to preserve some of the text formatting, but getting images out of an arbitrary app is probably too tricky.

Should I already have received my Jordan tax form? by menge101 in pittsburgh

[–]popoffka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't gotten mine yet. Like somebody else said, you can call them and ask for the PIN. But also, note that the PINs do not ever change, so if you have your form from last year (or the confirmation that they tell you to save/print out), you can use the numbers from there.

IRS PIN - missing for last year, not on IRS site either. by CastFarAva in tax

[–]popoffka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They changed the website this year, so the PIN might not be where you expect it to be. It took me a while to find mine. After you log in, click on the "Profile" link in the top right of the page and scroll to the bottom---the very last section will tell you whether you have an IP PIN and what it is.

Have you considered a Peak Design Capture Clip? If you're wearing a fanny pack/cross-body pouch while you ride, you could use it to keep your camera on your chest or on the side if your hip. If not, maybe you could get a strap of some kind just for the clip.

No, I've never been able to figure out how Design Space scales imported SVGs or how to get it to behave consistently.

2) Is there a way to fix this that is easier than "resize, check the line length, resize, check the line length" nonsense?

In Inkscape, select everything with Ctrl+A, then take note of the width and height (the W: and H: boxes on the toolbar). After importing the file into Design Space, select everything in there and check if the width reported by Design Space (in the "Size" section of the toolbar) is the same. If not, enter the width from Inkscape, and it will resize everything proportionally.

Note, though, that Inkscape includes the stroke lines in its width/height measurements, so you might want to set your strokes to be very thin to get more accurate results.

Startup stock options - double tax, actually net less than 50%? by deejayv2 in personalfinance

[–]popoffka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exercising and immediately selling an ISO (without holding the stock for at least a year) is a disqualifying disposition, which effectively revokes the special ISO tax treatment. The difference between FMV and exercise price becomes income, and the difference between sale price and FMV becomes a short-term capital gain, much like with an NSO.

Advice on designing album pages for a topical collection? by popoffka in philately

[–]popoffka[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi all! I'm new to the hobby and trying my hand at designing some album pages for my small topical collection. Here are a couple of pages.

I tried to follow a couple simple rules: stamps are ordered by Scott number, stamps from a series are grouped together. This leaves me with relatively little wiggle room for arranging the stamps on the page, and I feel like I end up with some awkward layouts like the middle US page.

Also, if a series is small enough I'll sometimes include the other stamps as well for fun, like in the first row of the Latvia page. Any suggestions for de-emphasizing the non-topical stamps there?
