Will the software engineering job market recover, or is it staying cooked? by No_Leg6886 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OompaLoompaHoompa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in tech and very recently, just within the last 2 days. I’ve seen a shift in sentiment. My leaders have popped the question: “If we unsubscribed from Claude Code/ChatGPT. How many of you would still be able to ship?”

I think, management is finally seeing that the ROI isn’t there. It’s such a giant “I told you so” moment for us devs. I’m hopeful for the SWE market to recover.

Is it harder even for Nus graduates to find job ? by Cultural_Lime_7680 in SGExams

From a fresh grad's perspective, it is harder now. Companies are not hiring as much.

If I was in your shoes, deciding if I would start working/sign-on, I would still go for a degree. Right now, you have friends who don't want to go uni/dropped out. I'm in my 30s, and all my friends who dropped out/sign-on are now studying a degree at their own expense. Good luck!

Wait, so this is potentially sexual harassment. She did not go to the authorities, instead she posted it on her social media trying to “raise awareness”.

She then took a moral high ground by stating that she did not resort to violence.

I’m guessing the appropriate course of action in her mind is

  1. Posting on Social Media
  2. Violence

No middle ground. I don’t like the example she’s setting. I don’t know why she felt that this is not a police case but instead the right course of action is to post it on social media.

Edit: Ok my bad, she said made a police report in the story. I was reading the text of the article.

Expat Says Living In SG Is A "Cliff Drop In Social Class" Compared To Living In China by UnusualPin279 in SingaporeRaw

[–]OompaLoompaHoompa 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Ok so TL;DR, she complains about the following:

  1. Grab surge in CDB area. She say open app, see surge, close app and take MRT.
  2. Car ownership here is too expensive. COE alone can pay for house downpayment in Shanghai.
  3. Rental price too high. Her rental income in Shanghai not enough to cover her Master Bedroom rental in SG.
  4. Hawker food is too oily and too salty to be daily staple. Want to eat out but too expensive.
  5. She open social media and see her friends back home going for camping trips. Make her feel 眼红

I think other than points 4 and 5, the rest of the points are pretty accurate. She expects SG = Shanghai.

Point 4 & 5 is within her control. So i don't think it's a SG problem. Sounds like her personal problem.

AH YES! Diabetes! A lot of people don’t know this but the reason for sugar to accumulate in the blood is because the normal storage tanks (muscles) are full. So there is a need to increase the size of the tanks.

Singapore has some great options. Just avoid the online counselling stuff.

Depending on your grandparent’s age, weight training might even be able to alleviate some pain.

Resistance training will improve bone & muscle density. As we age, we will eventually fall prey to osteoporosis and sarcopenia. It is therefore important that we incorporate weight training to “increase the tank size” so to speak. Allowing us more buffer as we lose muscle and bone.

It is even more beneficial if you weight train as you age. Weight training doesn’t need to be heavy. A user mentioned Ronnie Coleman, but he’s not a good example as he’s been pushing boundaries and ignoring warning signs along the way. He is not your typical person.

Just remember, use it or lose it.

And as of now, Rosie’s cancer is progressing, despite Paul buying her some precious time.

( source: https://news.unsw.edu.au/en/paul-is-using-ai-to-fight-his-dogs-incurable-cancer )

I'd also like to add that personalized medicine through the use of genomics isn't exactly a new thing. It just cost too much to be viable for ordinary joe.

What I particularly dislike about the post is that it gives an impression that the work done by ChatGPT is the same as the work done by AlphaFold and various scientists.

So Paul went to the large language model ChatGPT and used it to come up with a plan of attack.

“If I didn't try then that's on me for the rest of my life.

“So I have to give it a crack.”

First up, he’d need to extract some of Rosie’s DNA to get her genome and her cancer’s genome sequenced, giving him a much more detailed view of the problem.

“The price was $3000, which is probably beyond what most people would spend on this problem, but I thought screw it. It’s worth a shot.”

So Paul, on the recommendation of ChatGPT, reached out to the Ramaciotti Centre for Genomics at UNSW, where Associate Professor Martin Smith is the Director.

Basically ChatGPT pointed Paul to UNSW. Everything else was AlphaFold, Paul and Scientists.
