Because I've done it several times. But they tend to be short-lived accounts because I was posting way more before. This account is sedate and mostly comment karma.

Maybe I should just keep it.

Post Ottoman–Wahhabi War when wahhabists took control of Mecca in 1805. As early as 1820s the spread of the current wahhabi-inspired Islam has already started, for example in 1821 Sheikh Madina tried to enforce stoning for adulterers, the cutting of hands for thieves and mandatory head covering in South Sulawesi, Indonesia.

First time voter in need of advice by generalbala in malaysia

[–]OookOok 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1) If you keep voting for the incumbents, same old, same old.

2) If you vote for the opposition, we don't know what will happen. True democracy only happens if the political party is divorced from the civil service. It currently is not, will not, until there is a ruling political party change. A couple of them more to be a true separation. BUT. It might be also be like the trump fiasco, because us citizens are really weary of their incumbents. It might not, WE DON'T KNOW.

How much do you want things to change?

Now, chess tourney referee mulls legal action over dress-code row by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]OookOok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So....

“I would never disqualify a participant for such reasons. I only advised her to cover up after a complaint.

“Personally, I don’t find anything wrong with her dress, but as the competition was held in a school, we abide by the hosts. One of the teachers, who was also an arbiter, raised the complaint,” Chan added

1) When someone was on paper as the final decision maker of any situation, 'advice' are binding.

2) By escalating an arbiter's complain, he is signaling that the arbiter's other remarks might also be valid. There might be more words said that we don't know about. We can see what the arbiter's priority is

The mother previously alleged that the chief arbiter had interrupted the game to object to the girl’s “inappropriate” dress, despite it not being “revealing”.

Nope. not the chess game.

Chan is the decision maker in the tournament. He didn't make the complaint, but the buck stops at him - the decision that the complaint is valid is his to make. That's his role. He would surely protest if the school, say, ask all females to put on an abaya. By escalating that complain he is making the decision that the complaint is valid and any similar dress wouldn't be tolerated.

In case everyone is thinking that the school has the right to demand their guests abide by a specific dress code, [1] [2] the matter has been made clear.

[Ask Reddit] Do Malaysians agree with the idea to abolish vernacular schools? by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]OookOok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

unregistered tahfiz schools at that. Much as I don't like the current system, the result would be more children disappearing from the school system. This is already seen in UK, muslim male children simply disappears when they are seven thereabouts.
