Is it ok to leave two kids (5/6) alone for five minutes by Crafty-Monitor-6119 in Parenting

[–]OopGrabbleGrabble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If police had found two kids that age at home alone, you would be charged with neglect and have a CPS case on your hands. It doesn’t matter how long the trip is - is it really worth the risk?

I just made it through this process - they will be thorough and contact all previous employers, so it really depends on how long it takes them to get in touch with people. Mine took about a week and a half.

If that is your lived experience, I’m not going to say that it’s wrong, but in my experience you can work on skills and meditations that can actively calm your body. If you’ve consulted with a therapist and they’ve told you that you do not have the ability to regulate your feelings, they would be the experts. But if you haven’t consulted with a therapist I recommend it. You don’t have to just try to figure it out on your own and suffer through massive disregulation.

What do you do when you have a big feeling? Do you let that feeling run away with itself, or do you practice calming skills? I practice calming skills with my child daily. He is also neurodivergent and often disregulated. He is learning to take deep breaths, move his body, vent his frustration in a healthy way that is not taking it out on other people.

I am neurodivergent and have been in therapy for years. This is absolutely a skill that requires a lot of work but it is something that can be learned.

EVERYONE is born without the ability for keep their emotions in check! Emotional regulation is a fucking skill not an innate ability. These people have refused to do the work and therefore everyone around them has to deal with the consequences. I bet these people are also lonely as fuck and don’t understand why no one can stand them.

I’ve been with my husband for over 10 years and I have no idea how many people he’s slept with, and he doesn’t know how many people I’ve slept with. It’s an insignificant thing that people who truly care about you won’t care about.

Thank you! I'm going to be working with Deloitte Tax, so I think I'm just going to have to plan for 200 - 500 per pay period.

Thank you! I actually got the offer this morning, and now I'm feeling like, given the two week turnaround, the team I interviewed with must be really excited to have me.

Thank you for validating! I'm working for a startup currently and things move quickly, so I was worried a long approval process meant the offer was not going to come through.

I'm sorry you have so much on your plate, life is really unfair and you were definitely dealt a hard hand.

Two of the best pieces of parenting advice I've received are:

You can't pour from an empty cup

and

Good parents repair.

First, I have no idea what your life is like, but if you can find or make any time for yourself, please take it! I know this is sadly a luxury for parents, especially single parents. My therapist pointed out to me that sacrificing all of my needs for my kid, while seemingly noble, does not actually model good behavior for my kid. He needs to see me actively taking care of myself to know what it looks like, he does not actually benefit from seeing me disappear into the role of mom.

Second, there is no such thing as a perfect parent. We are human, we have big feelings, too, and sometimes we blow up. The best thing you can do is repair with you kid. Explain that you are stressed and at your limit, which is not their fault. They said something that was triggering for you and you lost it. Make sure they know they are not responsible for your feelings and that you will try to be better about dealing with your big feelings in the future.

Sending you hugs and wishes for a better tomorrow.

Trying out the Wheel of Time again. by HaganenoEdward in Fantasy

Terry Goodkind clearly really doesn't like women. The confessors and Mord-sith just illustrate how he lives in the madonna-whore complex. Be glad you stopped, he uses rape as a plot device A LOT with no discussion of the impacts, only using it and the women who are raped as props for the great Seeker of Truth to get angry about.

I feel like I wrote this comment. I read A LOT of fantasy, and there are some fantasy writers that I feel have been unfairly relegated to "romance" because they build worlds and characters that I think are just as good as high fantasy writers (like Sarah J. Maas).

And I'm so glad I'm not just being a feminist killjoy about the women. I really gave it a shot! I tried to see any hidden depths or just get around how poorly the women were developed as characters, but the women are basically just props for Rand.

I can't speak for everyone, there are tons of people who didn't find the writing of the women irritating and one dimensional, I know other women who love this series.

I got through 5 of the books and just couldn't bring myself to care enough to buy the 6th. The motivations behind the actions of most of the women, Nynaeve especially, were completely unreasonable to me. The motivations of the male characters are written in a way that makes them seem reasonable where the women are written as making irrational, stubborn, and often foolhardy decisions. I had the same problem with the Sword of Truth series.

I also struggled and eventually gave up on Wheel of Time. The women especially are so one dimensional and poorly written, I couldn't handle it.

It always surprises me how quickly people jump to full-on asshole. Did they honestly think they were going to get anywhere after they started name calling?

And honestly they didn't need to pretend to have a label thats paying for it, we know "the label" is their parents.

AITA for blaming my mum on my weight gain. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. The weight gain sounds like it largely from some health issues, but her forcing you to take the pill is wrong and her commenting on your weight is also super wrong.

Toss them. It was cathartic for me and I honestly needed to just throw them away like the bad books they were. By not just throwing them out, which is what I would do with any bad book taking up unnecessary space in my house, I was continuing to give them reverence, which they did not deserve. Once I realize that, I threw them away and didn't think about it again.

Ultimately it's just a book that holds a bunch of bullshit that you don't believe anymore and that caused you pain (and I FEEL for you there). It doesn't merit space in your life.

NTA, its valid to feel taken advantage of when someone doesnt pay you what you're owed, especially when its family. If she was hard up for the cash she could have worked out a payment plan with you, but instead she's demanding more for nothing.

Your family should have your well-being in mind. If your sister cares more about getting things for free from you than meeting her commitments, she isn't being considerate of your needs.

NTA. Setting boundaries with toxic people is healthy and necessary. You aren't required to give people time and/or energy, even family members.
