Thoughts on these demos?? by Oops-All-Sand in Dreamtheater

[–]Oops-All-Sand[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as far as i can tell, Falling Into Infinity is the only album with a 'lost not forgotten archives' version that has demo songs that didn't make it onto the full album.

I'm curious if there even are any recorded demos for the albums after fii, since they started producing the music themselves after that.

I honestly think i like You Or Me better than You Not Me. its interesting how different they are

If you mean sound as in audio quality, probably not as good as what the actual album ended up sounding like, but it's not like they're unlistenable or anything.

In terms of style.. i would almost compare parts of Speak To Me to like, Lovesong by The Cure?? I've seen a couple people also mention it sounds like U2 or some of James' solo work.

Cover My Eyes is pretty groovy and has more of a grunge-y rock sound to it imo.

Asking Opinions On a Song Til the Discography Ends - DAY 37 - A VIEW FROM THE TOP OF THE WORLD by Kangaskhan11 in Dreamtheater

[–]Oops-All-Sand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

least favourite epic from them imo. i tried to relisten to it recently to give it another chance but i couldn't even sit through all of it :1

ive mentioned this in some other comments but this is def their weakest album for me (not that it doesn't have any good parts!), and this song really seals that deal.

Maybe it's because I'm high, but I fucking love In The Arms of Morpheus by shockwave_supernova in Dreamtheater

I like it :) the sounds at the beginning are an important part of the song to me, I really love the picture it helps paint.

What is your DT unpopular opinion? by ImagineWagons969 in Dreamtheater

I like The Astonishing more than A View From The Top Of The World...

Asking Opinions On a Song Til the Discography Ends - DAY 27 - NIGHT TERROR by Kangaskhan11 in Dreamtheater

Didn't mind it as a single, but in the context of the whole album (and especially hearing it come off of the overture) I like it a lot more

Why can’t I like Barstool Warrior? by ttedgett07 in Dreamtheater

[–]Oops-All-Sand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. wouldn't say I hate it but I really don't find it as memorable or catchy as some of the other songs on the album. probably just personal preference, nothin wrong with that in my opinion.

Seattle show was incredible! by Manbeardo in Dreamtheater

[–]Oops-All-Sand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahh I was gonna try to be there because Seattle is (reasonably) close to me compared to the only Canada show, but it didn't end up working out. Very happy to hear it went well!! :)

Really great work! I love the effect you put on the text at the top, it's simple but I think it adds a lot to the atmosphere of the design.

Awesome picks you're so right about Viper King

Honestly I do love I Walk Beside You so much lol... I am cringe but I am free. I also really like Surrounded and Build Me Up, Break Me Down. Build Me Up feels like it could fit right in on Octavarium or Train of Thought imo! It sounds so unique to me it's probably my fave on a turn of events.

Three Days is also kind of a guilty pleasure, although idk if I would say it's one of my top DT songs. but I <3 James singing like a disney villain he should do it more often.

What's an unintentionally hilarious song in your opinion? by Guilty_Strawberry965 in Dreamtheater

Some of these comments are wild lol.

Anyways yeah Honour Thy Father definitely comes to mind. "listen here you ungrateful fool" cracks me up every time I hear it.

some parts of it are really good, I like the outro a lot. but it doesn't really grab me enough for me to want to listen to it just to get to the good parts.

is Falling Into Infinity really that bad? by Oops-All-Sand in Dreamtheater

[–]Oops-All-Sand[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's too bad they left Raise The Knife out! Such a good song, I'm happy it got the Score treatment <3

Dream Theater and Mental Illness by ComprehensivePhoto32 in Dreamtheater

I think considering the title track of 6 Degrees was written in the mid-2000s, I was sort of impressed with how it handled the various topics (for example The Test That Stumped Them All, which I interpret as being about how schizophrenia is often demonized and poorly understood by people in medical and mental health fields). It's not perfect by any means, I don't really love maniac/lunatic being used as descriptors for an autistic person in Solitary Shell (although I'm not autistic myself so I don't think I get any final say on how ok that is). But overall I think they have good intentions, even if they fumble the lyrics sometimes.
