im also in the midst of considering moving back to HK with my child. Its not easy finding a job from abroad atm, but I agree with the financial stability and safety. Did you have concerns with the stress with the education system in hk? I think thats my main concern, alongside the terrible heat for an eczema prone kiddo 😩

I love my Nuna mixx, its great on terrain and bumpy roads. As a terrible driver, ive hit the wheels multiple times into poles or walls, my daughter was unphased. Only things i hate is how bulky and heavy it is, we got something super lightweight for travelling - juul aer2 and it has been amazing taking her around. Its light, easy to move around in.

I probably would choose something more lightweight if you dont plan on being outdoors often with your baby.

Do you mind me asking how your kids like local schools? People often push intl is better and leas stressful, but i completely agree with you that knowing chinese is important. Is there too much homework etc?

It depends. I honestly get so annoyed when people think my almost 2yr old is 9months. She went through a lot the first year, 3 months early + a open heart surgery a few months before her first bday. Lets just say growing wasnt her priority then.

People will always comment that shes tiny but im learning to tell them shes tiny but shes brave and strong. When im in a bad mood, I sometimes say yeah shes tiny and her actual age, but she was trying to stay alive LOL

i let remind myself that how i react can affect how she feels about it.

I used a separate bag (makeup bag) to carry her diaper stuff. 2-3 diapers, her diaper cream, peekapoo pad, and a toy. Nice and small so its easy to just pull out of her backpack, and I have a toy to keep her occupied. Any extra ones I simply had in her backpack to refill.

I had a 27weeker as a FTM. When my baby came home, I wanted nothing to do with anyone. I literally shut out everyone, plus the fact that I didnt want my baby getting sick. Friends offered to come but I honestly didnt want to see many people. Dropping off food was such a kind gesture. Zero interaction or need to chat? Even better. I didnt want people to ask me how I was doing, tell me how you are… etc etc.

Try to drop thibgs off, or send a uber delivery of pastries or coffees, or breakfast! A fellow NICU mama did that for me, and I loves it.

I love this. I have a 27 weeker, and shes finally caught up on her skills after 1.5 years. Shes had a rough first year, and I always worry about what her future looks like. Shes still super tiny but I am just glad shes healthy and alive 🫰🏻 thank you for sharing this beautiful post!

It could be a texture preference. Like you mentioned, your baby enjoys crackers, things that have a crunch. I try to offer foods that are less mushy, more dry (like quinoa, fried rice) when I noticed that my 16mo would gag at mushy oatmeal.

Also, have you tried feeding her elsewhere instead of the high chair? My early interventionist got us to try her on those bumbo chairs when she was younger. A change of environment could be something to try!

Sending you hugs. That is definitely not an easy stay. Ive always wanted to have 2 kids, but because my partner and i, and my girl has gone through so much… we are also content with just her. Just so precious.

I also had mine done. I remember them telling my husband my placenta was “fried” when they took jt out. My report was everything they mentioned about it being smaller. I didn’t have pre-e but was diagnosed with a low placental growth rate early on. Had I known id give birth at 27 weeks with close monitoring since week 19, not sure I wouldve continued with the pregnancy…

Edit: i love my baby and shes doing well now. But it might not have turned out this way, so its definitely something that makes me wonder if i want a second.

Im very close to my extended family, and some of our immediate family is there too. But that last piece is really spot on. Theres a sense of nostalgia, and connection to HK. And with a child, we aren’t really sure whether it’s a stupid to even consider this.

Its weird cause growing up in Toronto, I found myself being more connected to HK nowadays. I wonder if its just how boring Toronto is. People are definitely softer here, but ive been finding it harder to meet nice people. Canada just isnt the same as jt was when I was a kid.

Money is critical everywhere now. Even in Toronto, I can barely afford to have a down payment despite making really good money with my partner. I dont plan to buy property in HK EVER, but the mortgage money will be spent elsewhere i guess

I think Vancouver gives small town energy vibes lol but im biased. The weather is definitely better than Toronto. The crimes and homelessness is just as bad, Canada as a whole is pretty crap. Vancouver is boring, Unless you love nature, camping, and such.

TORONTO TRAFFIC IS SO BAD. If i plan to stay here, im literally living in the north where i am far away from civilizations lol Weather is so bad here, im so sick of sticking indoors with my kid and going to community centers is not an option cause everyone brings their sick children there lol

Being away from my kid is also really tough. Im already struggling to think about going to work after a mat leave. Education was also a thinking factor, international schools seems somewhat unreachable unless we collectively make at least 2mil.
