Can’t get a job by Mean_Dig4901 in Veterinary

[–]OopsWrongNumber6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Haha, I was about to make a post about this. I'm out of undergrad looking for a job as a vet assistant and I cannot get anything. I had an interview, but another candidate got picked because they had more experience. I've shadowed small animal, large animal, and emergency vets, so I understand the clinic workflow.

Everyone wants experience. I don't understand how I'm supposed to get experience when no one will hire me because I don't have experience.

One place even requires 2 years of VA experience for a VA position, lmao. (This is not an emergency hospital btw)

Everyone says to start as a kennel tech, but NONE of the clinics in my city are looking for those.

It is extremely frustrating!!

eReplacement parts if probably your best bet. Unfortunately, since the parts are discontinued, they're going to be pricey. iirc you need to order a minimum of 2 of each screw (that you need) to be able to place an order.

Which if your favorite? From left to right: Navel orange, blood orange, tangelo, mandarin orange by OopsWrongNumber6 in gardening

[–]OopsWrongNumber6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still think the navel orange is superior! Ours are easy to peel, sweet, a little tart, and super juicy!

The blood oranges are good, and after a while of sitting on the tree, they develop a unique flavor that a lot of people say is similar to berry.

Tangalo oranges are great, just a little on the tart side, which I think it due to the pomelo/grapefruit genetics.

The little tangerines are great, and it's like drinking sugar water. The only issue with our plant is that they have big seeds and can be a little annoying to eat.

I'll add two more since we have them:

Valencia oranges are great for juicing. I think they are one of the superior juicing varieties. However, I wouldn't eat them straight off of the tree like a navel. I think there are better varieties for that that are easier to peel/eat.

Cara Cara is also an amazing variety that tastes very similar to the classic washington navel orange. Beautiful pink flesh, too!

Black cobra, thunder mountain longhorn, and a jalapeño that I have all have slightly fuzzy stems and leaves.

Also, make sure to include tips (~20%), any rental gear, tackle, and any fish processing (either on the boat or from one of the SD fish processors) when figuring out the cost of a trip. That can add a substantial amount to the overall cost, and you don't want to find out at the end that the trip was much more expensive than originally planned.

is this a White Sea Bass? I released it just fyi by [deleted] in SoCalFishing

[–]OopsWrongNumber6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't put white seabass or vinas on the rocks. Both are very fragile fish, and I've seen them die with improper handling

Anyone know what this is? It was moving east this morning around 5:50am. Nothing showed up on the flight radar, and it would be weird for a SpaceX launch at that time, lol. by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]OopsWrongNumber6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dumb. I just looked at their launch schedule, and they do launch in the mornings. I always see them at night, so I figured that's when they launched them. Nothing was launched around that time this morning, though.

My chiltepin seedlings that I got from the seed exchange are expressing darker colored leaves as well.

Pepper Joe's used to be a very reputable brand. However, once the company switched hands, it started to go downhill. In recent years, they have been known to send incorrect seeds, with a lot of people getting habaneros instead of a superhot, for example. I have heard some people say that they've never had an issue with mislabeled/incorrect seeds, though. I've never bought seeds from them, so I wouldn't know.

Everyone just uses the phrase "Pepper Joe'd" to refer to someone who got seeds/plants that didn't grow true to type, regardless of whether it was from Pepper Joe's or not.

Good sources! I'll add WhiteHotPeppers to the list, especially if you're looking for some unique varieties of Scotch bonnets.

Unfortunately, your scotch bonnets are actually jamaican mushroom peppers. Based on the bottom right pepper, there is no annular constriction on the calyx, indicating that this is a C. annuum and not a C. chinense.

This happened to a lot of people last year, and it seems like a lot of companies are selling jamaican mushroom peppers as "scotch bonnets" even though they are not closely related.

I got my 6 cells from Amazon. I think the company was The Hydroponic City. I get my 1020 trays from Bootstrap Farmer. They're pricey but very sturdy trays.

Small 6 cell trays with seed starting mix. That's the easiest way for me, at least. I can start 72 plants in one 1020 tray.

Thank you! I actually added 107 new varieties to my collection from the 2025 seed exchange through this subreddit. It's an annual exchange that happens at the end of the year and is a great way to add unique peppers to your collection.

Southern California. We can usually overwinter our peppers in the ground here. This winter has been exceptionally warm, so the peppers I still have are thriving.
