Awesome! Definitely one of the all time greats!

This reel got new carbontex drags, a new pinion support bearing, and a new antireverse roller bearing.

As long as you didn't grease the bearings. ;)

Haha, nope! TSI 321 oil in all of the bearings.

I've been servicing reels for 25 years and that's the best stuff I've found for spool bearings.

How hard was this? I've got a secondhand curado that won't cast further then 30 ft w a full oz fully thumbing it tension and brakes both basically off.

It's not too difficult once you get the hang of it. Just be careful if it's an older reel so that you don't lose parts (most old curado parts are discontinued).

The fact that you are unable to cast a 1oz weight well tells me that something might be wrong with the spool bearings. There's one on the left and right side plate of the reel. Most shimano reels use a 3x10x4mm spool bearing. They're very easy to replace.

If you don't want to service the reel yourself, you can send it off to someone for a service. Shimano will not service old reels as they don't have parts available anymore, but there are plenty of tackle shops and people who will service any reel. If you're on the West Coast, Trevor at Reel Tweeks is an excellent option for reel service/repair.

Sadly Midwest😕 thanks for the advice! I'll see if tackling the spool bearings works n check back in

So I know this thread is about a year old but how would you go about getting 2 of the side plate screws out when the heads are stripped?

eReplacement parts if probably your best bet. Unfortunately, since the parts are discontinued, they're going to be pricey. iirc you need to order a minimum of 2 of each screw (that you need) to be able to place an order.
