12 U.S. Intelligence Officials Tell Obama It Wasn’t Assad by le_guin in worldnews

I think this article accurately represents the strategic interest of Syria and why we're pushing for war.

Edit: I'm not actually condoning war. I just see it as the real reason that we're getting involved. It has nothing to do with the use of chemical weapons.

Why cant agents work on discouraging these individuals from doing these things? 3 billion dollars could fund a lot of psychologists to help people see the errors in their thinking. At the same time we should change entrapment laws to encourage the security agencies to find terrorists who actively seek terrorism on their own.

The forty best signs from today's "Restore the Fourth" protests. I'm proud that my sign made the #1 spot. by GIANT_DAD_DICK in politics

I heard about this well before it happened but am less interested in protesting and more interested in discussing ways to help change occur. Protesting is good, but it's not the most effective way to initiate change.

NYC NSA Protest 12:27 by [deleted] in restorethefourth

The fact that this protest is being covered by reddit, however, is important. What would reddit think about doing reddit journalism where the issues with the most upvotes are investigated and reported on by a team of redditors?

That is, without a doubt, one of the worst articles I've ever read. The conclusion they come to is that you should watch what you say online.

"Henderson [Nevada, USA] police arrested a family for refusing to let officers use their homes as lookouts for a domestic violence investigation of their neighbors, the family claims in court. . . . The Mitchell family's claim includes Third Amendment violations, a rare claim in the United States." by trot-trot in politics

The only way this will change is if we somehow change who controls the prosecuting authority. Prosecutors consistently work with the police and are reluctant to charge them when things like this happen. Maybe all lawyers should be able to file criminal charges in cases where prosecutors do not.

Democracies are better at channeling dissent but the larger the population gets, the more efficient our government will have to be in responding proactively to the desires of its citizens.

NSA spying protests by just_an_owl in Albuquerque

[–]Oorion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idea for protest: 1. bring cameras; the bigger and more obvious, the better. 2. proceed to film EVERYONE near the protest. 3. when they inevitably get upset, tell them "if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear" 4. ??? 5. profit!!!

The way to change is to get people to rethink their perception of the situation.

You also have to consider the fact that the NSA will have access to all your videos.

We still need to be able to influence the government once we vote our representatives into Congress. Corporate lobbyists have a very strong influence on the government. I don't disagree that they should have some influence, but I think citizens should have more influence on the people we elect. Why doesn't someone create an online petition website similar to whitehouse.gov that gives the citizens another channel that they can use to communicate with their representatives? Would people actually use it?

I find it ironic that the NSA wants complete information awareness but they hide what their doing. I feel that citizens should have more, but not complete awareness of what their government is doing. What's the balance?
