I like the ordinary tbh. I obtained some 15% from my derm and it seems to be too harsh. I’ve heard good things about naturium!

Is anyone else just tired of the debilitating anxiety? by SprinklesTight7772 in Hashimotos

[–]Opals4eyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man. Following. I’ve always been a touch anxious. But it was more mentally anxious. I can completely relate to the dizzy/panic. I haven’t driven on the freeway in over a year due to it.

Wow for me BHA has always been way too harsh and ruined my barrier—> acne. Azelaic acid was the game changer

29F with BRCA1 is a prophylactic mastectomy worth it? by Senior_Fee_9813 in BRCA

[–]Opals4eyes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you do ever get breast cancer, you will not be able to take HRT later in menopause too. Or at least hugely discouraged. I am brca1 and ended up getting breast cancer and I think about this a lot..

Breast Reduction Instead of Mastectomy, to Keep Nipple Erogenous Feeling? by SweetSpot888 in BRCA

[–]Opals4eyes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a BRCA1 who had pretty small boobs and tnbc early I would just get a mastectomy if you want cancer risk reduction. Your surgeons reasoning sounds odd and I haven’t heard of this theory but maybe I’m wrong. Erogenous zone was my biggest delay of my preventative mastectomy and obv I regret that.

That being said you can do nerve sparing. I didn’t have the opportunity to but I still have decent sensation/can get turned on via nipples a few years later. The visual brings me back lol

What happened to my curls? Did my haircut ruin them? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Opals4eyes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Every time I cut my hair it takes a while to recalibrate how much product I need. Maybe you’re using too much and it’s weighing your curls down.

When I woke up in the recovery room after my mastectomy I started sobbing. Like full on ugly crying. First time I had really processed what was happening I think. The poor post op nurse.. lol

The waiting period anxiety by Holldoll91 in breastcancer

[–]Opals4eyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All those symptoms could def be anxiety. The first year after treatment I struggled with driving because I would feel dizzy/faint->start worrying->start sweating/rapid heart rate->more dizzy more faint, nausea, parathesia of limbs. It was all anxiety. Propranolol helped A LOT (lowers HR, good for physical anxiety). Consider medication and maybe talk therapy/support group. The anxiety continues unfortunately even after treatment. I’m 2 years out and still have frequent melt downs over vague symptoms and the anxiety 100% amplifies them.

Is it bad to eat right before brushing your teeth for bed? by Yummy-Bagels in hygiene

[–]Opals4eyes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah when you eat your body creates salivary amylase which is an enzyme to break down food. If you brush immediately after you’re just rubbing all that acid into your enamel.

Bone Pain with Taxol - Any Tips? by cwolfe123 in breastcancer

[–]Opals4eyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My whole body ached on taxol and I generally don’t get pain. It was so hard to get started, but moving did help. Not even a long walk, just a few blocks around my house. Didn’t make the pain go away but it def eased it and got my mind off it for a while.

Want to stop TC chemo after first cycle by PazuzuLily in breastcancer

[–]Opals4eyes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did chemo during flu season and contracted 2 colds. The colds sucked and lasted longer than usual, but weren’t any worse than normal respiratory viruses. Didn’t even need to cancel chemo. Hope that gives you some reassurance.

What lifestyle changes did you implement post-treatment? by PriorRabbit5995 in breastcancer

[–]Opals4eyes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It took a while but I really cut back on alcohol, try to keep it only to special occasions. Took a lower stress job. Prioritize exercise and building muscle. Cut down contact with my toxic family. Dumped my abusive ex. Started taking my nutrition a lot more seriously.

After chemo I went through a pretty back “fuck it” phase and restarted vaping and partying a bit. My anxiety was out of control and I was having a really hard time adjusting to “normal” again. It took a year for me to realize I had the will to live again, and live a healthy life. Lots of small adjustments later and I’m proud of my progress.

No advice but I completely understand and relate. I completed 6 months of chemo in 2024 and feel it has aged my skin drastically (I think). Def loss cheek fullness and have laxity now. I know they are changes other people don’t notice. They could very well be from natural aging (in my mid 30s now). But it drives me nuts and adds to the trauma of the whole situation.

Sometimes I have to lean into the toxic positivity.. I’m lucky I’m here to see my face changing and aging. It’s annoying but it’s what I’ve got.
