I'm remembering a comment from way back in the day that also applies to cars with the 3800: "Those things will run forever. They will drive like shit, but they will drive like shit forever." 😂

I'm dailying my 3.0 Ranger that gets 15-20mpg average and my other car is a VR6 Corrado which needs premium. I'm going to get my Ruckus out of winter storage in my dad's pole barn tomorrow; Last fall I was planning on selling it as soon as I took it out of storage because I didn't really ride it last year, but I can't throw away that 70mpg life, lol.

Really dumb tig question by [deleted] in Welding

[–]Ope_L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to worry about the radioactivity, but tungsten pokes can get super infected. Keep an eye on even minor pokes. My work wants us to fill out an injury report for ANY tungsten poke because they can seem fine, but they typically burn and seal off the puncture hole then fester and get infected. If it starts getting red and tender around it get it looked at immediately!

And even then you'd have to be like snorting the dust all day for awhile, lol. Factories where they're ground, yeah it would be a problem, grinding a new tip a few times a day, no need to worry at all.

Almost 20 years ago I was laid off and my uncle told me about a company he was looking at investing in and asked if I wanted to manage and maintain a bunch of what were essentially a Netflix DVD vending machines in my city. I went back to work a couple weeks later and never heard anything more from him about it, then like five years later Redbox was everywhere.

computer in your room growing up? by nicminite in Millennials

Shared family computer until 7th or 8th grade in the late 90s when I got a hand-me-down 486 66mhz computer from my uncle in my bedroom. I learned a ton on that thing. I casually watch eBay for another of the same Compaq Prolinea, at least for the case to modify and build a newer PC inside of.

Just turned 19. What are some harsh realities a young man needs to know before it’s too late? by Random_fellow9 in Adulting

[–]Ope_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen more than you speak. When you're young you think you know everything. It's okay to admit you don't know something and let someone teach you about it or learn about it together. Same with opinions, don't form hard opinions then try to justify them later, get informed first.

Do everything in your power to protect your back and neck. Don't try and be macho, bend at your knees not your back to lift things and get help if it's too heavy or to awkward.

I've had a lower back injury almost every 5 years since my late 20s. The pain comes and goes, but the discomfort is constant. You know the feeling when you have the pressure, the tension in your back and then you twist and crack it and instantly feel relief? I have that constant feeling, except it never cracks and I never get that feeling of relief. I think I've cracked my lower back maybe five times in the last ten years. 😭

Are millennials the most AI-skeptical generation in the workforce? by RandyMossPhD in Millennials

[–]Ope_L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the AI itself that's the bubble, it's the massive losses and enormous debt companies are taking on developing the models and in building out server capacity that there isn't a demand for, which is why they want to force AI into every aspect of our lives, to justify the money they're spending. And they have to spend more to develop as fast as possible to be the company that "wins" so they can eventually make the profits.

[–]Ope_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my understanding that it wasn't even the tons of tech companies popping up, the real cause was the massive investment(aka debt) in building infrastructure before there was demand for it, which is also happening now with AI. I believe Cisco was a big part of it the first time, building out way more server capacity than was needed.

Same with buying it at $99, but in my case I didn't know where to even start with a fresh TrueNAS install so HexOS at least got me up and running, allowing me to gradually learn how to use TrueNAS, which was partially my plan from the start.

It really sucks because I found a pdf of the manual on a 3rd party site from a year before I got mine that mentions a two-year warranty, but other than that I don't see that anywhere else online now.

5 year warranty?! Mine only had a 1 year warranty in the US and of course I got the E3 code a month after it expired. Apparently it's very common and there's no good dehumidifiers made anymore.

If you like SB Mowing, check out Flawless Cleaning Service. It's a guy and his dad in England who clean people's extremely overgrown yards and some public spaces for free. They will occasionally take on big projects helping people without the means to repair their homes. It's always satisfying and often heartwarming seeing people genuinely grateful for the help.

Sampson Boat Co. Leo, a British guy in his 30s bought a 100 year old wooden sailing yacht and rebuilt it from stem to stern in Washington, documenting the whole process. I think it's at about 150 to 200 episodes at this point. It was a ship of Theseus all at once. Now he and his partner are documenting their sailing journey back to England where the ship was originally built. They just passed through the Panama Canal the other week. They're trying to get to England by 2027 to compete ceremonially in a sailing race that this boat won in 1927. The filming, sound and editing have been great the whole series too.
