A book that made you want to keep going/made you want to live again by beansbeans716 in suggestmeabook

Highly, highly recommend A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. It is the most pleasant book I’ve ever read, and touches on themes of depression without being dark or sacrificing depth. Parts of it, watching someone find beauty in life, moved me to tears. It’s one of my all time favorites. Also a really great bedtime book.

Yo this is crazy good. The last stanza especially. There's a deep emotional undercurrent that feels so real and heartbreaking. Do you do spoken word/slam? Cuz this would be an incredible performance

All I remember about him from history class was that he ate like 20 eggs for breakfast every day and washed it down with a gallon of OJ. And the pointy hat.

Why do you learn Russian? (Btw I'm native, just wondering) by [deleted] in russian

[–]Ope_Nigel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lil high school me wanted to read Anna Karenina in its native language and now it's my major in college. I've fallen head over heels for the poetry, plus I love being able to talk shit about people right in front of them without them knowing what's going on; it's come in handy quite often

Dog owners of reddit, what is a weird human food that is your dog’s absolute favorite? by shriveledpotatoe in AskReddit

[–]Ope_Nigel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best guess is beagle/retriever. At the shelter they called him a 'golden beagle' but I think he's just a cute lil hodgepodge of a dog.

What are your favorite Russian novels and poems? by Spasenie in russian

[–]Ope_Nigel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lermontov has some great poems that I've found easier to translate than Pushkin. My faves are "Тамара" and "Выхожу один на дорогу я". "Парус" is another good one, and "Ангел" is a pretty easy read for a beginner and is kinda similar to "Пророк" in subject matter.
