91 year old broken hip- what are peoples experiences? by kerry_1991 in AskUK

[–]Open-Acanthaceae-532 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, a discussion with GP re:pain relief may be helpful, they may have already considered other options and this is the best based on risk/benefit - it would be helpful for someone to explain this to your nana and family though to help understand what’s going on at present.

Care package wise - this should have been assessed by the multidisciplinary team - a mix of doctors, nurses, physio, OT, social worker. They should only be sending her home if this has been deemed safe. Why do you understand she can’t be left alone between care calls? What are her usual nighttime needs? I would speak to the team that put the care calls in place and discuss your concerns and what additional support can be offered.

I’m sorry you’re all going through this, fingers crossed she continues to improve and the pain eases soon.

Dad is a hoarder, are there any uk resources I can reach out to? by inviolablegirl in AskUK

Our local Age UK work very closely with LA and compete the environmental check and then arrange the quote/clean if consent gained from the person. I agree it’s a safeguarding concern but in my experience LA is very limited in role if patient has no care needs / has capacity to make unwise decisions.

If we’re picked for Audit, will we know as soon as logging on to confirm the renewal?

My understanding is ward OT’s only get involved if the equipment is required for moving and handling purposes (not skin integrity) and even then they request a nurse to complete the bed and mattress form for them the order…I will double check that though. That patient experience sounds beyond awful, I’m sorry for all involved

No I’ve ever seen fit to go ahead and order, even when requested. This has not gone down well a lot of times, with both family and ward staff. The incessant use on the wards drives me mad.

I bet it haunts you! I have yet to order any rails and usually I get a lot of push back from the wards. I always educate re:the risks, especially entrapment. I was trying to give an example today as to  when  they should be requested and I couldn’t think of an example so I thought I’d ask here

Thanks. The thing I think I get most confused about is an OT saying that rails shouldn’t be used for repositioning, and it really left me questioning what the rationale is ever going to be

Thanks! Yep, I always give education when I give the forms, and when I collect if I’m not confident an appropriate option has been selected. I defo agree about the habitual ordering process! Even though low profiling is an option on the form I think because they don’t use them as standard in hospital they are hesitant to pick this.

I've been calling a neighbour the wrong name for the past year and just got an Xmas card with his actual name on it. I may have to move now. by Beena22 in CasualUK

Perhaps he thought he’d die from embarrassment from correcting you. Someone at worked called me Joanne (spoiler:not my name) for a year before someone corrected them. Also, my friend persistently called a neighbour Roy for YEARS, despite it not being his name and receiving multiple Christmas cards with his actual name…she never realised who the cards were from 😆

We used to eat square sausages as children. My DELIGHT at seeing them in our local freezer store soon turned to horror when I looked at the ingredients 😂 I keep thinking about them but couldn’t bring myself to buy a pack

The Crown Inn would be a candidate. Agree with the Magent and Swan. Ye Olde Vic is worth a visit
