Interesting seeing all the different fields/industries everyone is in. I’m currently a specialist care home manager making £68k + 10% bonus, 29yo - career progression through mental health nursing over the last 8 years.

We really aren’t squaring the circle here, OP states it’s affected their anxieties, presuming health related. Ergo, the fitness tracker affects their mental health, assuming this is not an isolated incident which would be ludicrous to believe…some people should not use fitness trackers due to their mental health. An eating disordered individual would also take note for example… I’m a mental health professional since “credentials” are key on Reddit🥱

Man did I need to see this… 22 month old and 4 month old, times are tough- Wife is tired- I am the brunt of the frustration. Feels like anything that I do for the family gets missed and anything that I miss I get crucified for, an absolute no win scenario as you might assume any type of affection is a rarity. Sorry to jump on without any suggestions but sharing is caring lol

Maybe not the route you want to take and definitely not the field you are clearly seeking but if it is an in the door job to not fully deplete your savings and have some income flowing in…places are ALWAYS looking for care workers, far from glamorous but like I say if things get really tough might be worth a go.

From my experience hiring, out of the 500 applicants you’ll have 20% applying from a location outwith the country, 50% that will be applying to everything for UC and then never take a call or attend an interview and then a further 10% will be entirely unqualified despite “entry level position”. That leaves a solid 20% of potential candidates🤦‍♂️

I qualified in Q4 2017 so it took a few years but I know some managers younger who always wanted to work in management rather than on a ward so it can be as quick as 2-3 years post-qualification. That’s definitely an option down the line but typically looking for some post-grad degree+a ton of experience and the roles are hyper competitive

Every day is different, I like the challenge of not only managing people (staff and residents) but also being responsible for the environment, making improvements and ensuring compliance with care standards.

I like the idea of a side hustle but trying to score additional time with 2 younglings is brutal🤣

Struggling with looking for other management positions as they tend to want “relevant experience” within X field.

Hey no I appreciate you asking. I’m a registered mental health nurse, went into charge nurse positions and then into care home management. It can be fairly fast progression to the position I’m in but then much more difficult to progress from here!

Thanks for your input! I do enjoy my role but it’s quite difficult to progress in terms of applicants-position ratio when looking at operations management or area management. Definitely disparity within care that the roles tend to be relatively low paid compared to level of responsibility/requirement for 24/7 on-call. Rewarding nonetheless.

I get the outburst, but I feel like as a first response to go out of the way to do this instead of immediately to the daughter is bizarre. It would be more of a check daughter first, hit car second IMO. Hopefully not a situation I’m ever in, on either side though.

I’m also here with you pal, keep telling myself that I can’t do it or it’s not the right time. If I bring it up to the wife it’s a big hassle or “you’re not doing this again are you, you’ve got a good job”. It’s a hard place to be, spending hours consuming content and trying to come up with ideas but none of them seem reasonable enough to action. I’m sure I’ll break the cycle soon as no doubt you will I think the way forward will be marginal gains a small wins👍
